I was talking to an engineer at Koch Engineering's Wichita, KS office on Friday. I guess they have a small group of "occupiers" showing up outside her office complex citing the exact same concerns as you.
Attacking a company or in this case a consortium of companies like Koch is not a winning strategy for anyone trying to make whatever point. Personally attacking David or Charles Koch for being "union busting oligarchs" is interesting.
Koch Industries is an American private energy conglomerate based in Wichita, Kansas, with subsidiaries involved in manufacturing, trading and investments. Koch also owns Invista, Georgia-Pacific, Flint Hills Resources, Koch Pipeline, Koch Fertilizer, Koch Minerals and Matador Cattle Company. Koch companies are involved in core industries such as the manufacturing, refining and distribution of petroleum, chemicals, energy, fiber, intermediates and polymers, minerals, fertilizers, pulp and paper, chemical technology equipment, ranching, finance, commodities trading, as well as other ventures and investments. The firm employs 50,000 people in the United States and another 20,000 in 59 other countries. over 70,000 jobs world wide and believe me these aren't hamburger flipping positions. These are highly payed extremely skilled professionals that most certainly don't view the Koch brothers in the same regards as you.
Saying the Koch family is directly responsible for providing an opportunity for for thousands of families to enjoy life and a comfortable lifestyle is an understatement. Taking for-granted all the services Koch Industries and their employees provides the rest of us making our lives immeasurably more comfortable and enjoyable borders on insanity. Do people bitch about the Koch's when they turn their furnaces on in the winter? Or fill their gas tanks? Are you going to tear down your house if you find out the lumber was supplied to the builder by Georgia pacific? I think not.
The Koch family has created a staggering amount of wealth. Factoring the amount of revenue Koch Industries is responsible for generating directly through corporate taxation and indirectly through all the salaries it pays to its over 50,000 employees here in the US is mind blowing.
Accusing the Koch family of not paying their "fair share" of revenues is equally perplexing.
David Koch executive vice president of Koch Industries
Charles Koch co-owner, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Koch Industries Inc.
To be sure, the Kochs have given "more than a hundred million dollars to right wing causes" (which is their right, by the way). But in the last decade, it's also worth noting the Kochs have given more than $600 million in pledged or donated money to arts, education, and medical research, including (but not limited to):
New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell: $15 million
M.D. Anderson Cancer Center: $25 million
The Hospital for Special Surgery: $26 million
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center: $30 million
Prostate Cancer Foundation: $41 million
Deerfield Academy: $68 million
Lincoln Center's NY State Theater: $100 million
Massachusetts Institute of Technology: $139 million
Here we have civic-minded business leaders engaging in their right to participate in the political process -- and also donating large amounts of wealth to philanthropic causes.
Over 1/2 billion dollars in private charitable contributions.
I'm sure the government could have spent the money more wisely. And I'm also sure they donated to all these charities so as to pay off whomever necessary to advance their cabal. Or maybe they diverted tax free money to what they saw as good causes.
Oh the humanity....
