Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
The House on Friday passed the first in a planned series of Republican bills to effectively block the Environmental Protection Agency from reining in toxic pollution under the Clean Air Act.
The measure, which passed 233-180, largely along party lines, would delay the EPA from moving forward on a new rule scheduled to be rolled out in November requiring coal plants to slash 90 percent of their mercury emissions. That rule is required under the terms of the 1990 Clean Air Act, and has been delayed for more than 20 years.
The bill also would keep the EPA from moving forward with a rule known as the cross-state air rule, which would require coal plants to limit toxic emissions that cross state lines and contribute to health and environmental damage.
The “Transparency in Regulatory Analysis of Impacts on the Nation”—which Republicans call the “TRAIN” act— has no chance of passing the Democrat-controlled Senate. Neither do a half a dozen other anti-EPA bills still to come to the House floor this fall. And even if they somehow did, they’d meet a presidential veto.
But enacting legislation isn’t the point. The high-profile floor debate over this and later anti-EPA bills gives Republicans a platform to rail against the Obama administration’s so-called “job-killing regulations,” and lets them hone a message likely to resonate throughout the 2012 presidential campaign.
Killing America one. I wonder how many bucks went in the pockets of Republicans for allowing companies to dump their pollution in the air we breath.

This is genius people. Open your eyes. If we clean up carcinogens think of the long and fulfilling lives that would create.
Now think of all the entitlement programs like Medicare and social security we'd depend on. Republicans killing Americans saves us billions with a B in government spending.
Pollution: It is just motivaton not to be poor and have to live in cities. Personal responsibility would dictate that you become a CEO earn enough money and move away....What part of this you don't get LIBTARDS!

it was a handful of people that i wouldnt even be surprised if they were plants in the audience. and your cheering the death of americans over health care statements is wrong anyway. the incident was if someone making enough money to afford it chose not to get healthcare should the government foot the bill or should they be allowed to die. like 3 people yelled yes. not sure why i even bothered to try and use facts on this board though its clearly a breading ground for liberal misinformation and name calling

Prez Obama can't create a job no matter how hard he tries. Maybe, he just needs some Prozac for his depression?

Why hasnt one candidate said anything in response to these jeers? You are wrong, those crowds are an example of what the Republican party has become!

if you bothered to watch you would have seen the shocked looks on their face, but since you want to believe that you will let a handful of people make up your mind. i guess by the same logic dems are just as corrupt since they sold obamas senate seat to the highest bidder

Not one had the guts (and smarts, BTW) to say "Your jeers are out of order; pipe down and let the soldier speak".
Lack of cheap electricity will probably lead to my death a lot sooner than an increase in particulate mercury. I had to have the power shut off to my house last winter because my roommates could not pay for it. That was hard, not having heat, not being able to store food. I prefer to trade a 3 part per billion increase in a naturally occurring element for food, and heat, and light. Burning propane, candles, and wood in the house as I had to do to replace the electricity probably exposed me to more harmful chemical compounds than that power-plant in another state. Plus the increased risk of fire, and the increased risk of disease from improperly stored foods and inability to maintain hygiene, increased my risks as well. Try it, it's a great experiment in why Liberals never think through their policy ramifications and hate the poor.

theres no need to address it. it was literally like 3 people not the whole crowd. theres no reason to respond to people who are probably plants to make the party look bad in the first place and give them more attention which is what they want.
There was one time a few years back when I was looking at a new vehicle. I really liked the car that I took a test drive in with the dealer. However, when we got back to the dealership, he told me they couldn't sell me that exact vehicle, because "acid rain" had affected the paint. I thought that was pretty credible of the dealer as most of them would be sleazy and just push that car off on just about anyone.
I'm trying to remember the year this was, but I think a Democrat was the president. Yeah, we'll blame the Democrat for the acid rain at the time.
