Bands that were Supposed to be the Next "Big Thing," but Weren't.
Date: July 30, 2011 02:43PM

I remember when these guys were supposed to be the "next big thing" when the movie "Kids" came out. Of course, they weren't.

The White Stripes or anything Jack White was a part of. I think people got tired of bean pole musicians talking tough in songs al-la Axel Rose but being giant douche pussies in real life.

+100 on anything related to jack white. He sucks and I'm glad he isn't as big as he should be.

Remember all of those pop princesses that didn't do shit? Mandy Moore (hot, btw), Willa Ford, etc...

I wouldn't include the pop people. Thats a whole different animal. Most of the artist are expected to be cyclical.

If someone walked up to me and said "Work your ass off for 2-4 years releasing and promoting a pop album and you can will be set for the rest of your life.." I'd do it.

What about Modest Mouse....they were overplayed but i think it has something to do with a payola scandal.

Modest Mouse is a good one. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones are on my radio now - i think they qualify.

I dunno about Mighty Mighty Bosstones, they had a nice run and are not missed. They rode the whole ska music. Nothing cool about a saxamaphone in rock music IMO.

Kings of Leon was red hot last year...haven't heard to much from them this summer. I suppose they have to time rebound.

How about Days of the New. DC101 and 98 Rock still play shit out of Touch Peel and Stand like its farm fresh.

Not a band but I remember a music "expert" predicting Billy Ray Cyrus would be the next Elvis. Stupid hick with trashy daughter. Dollar bin at Walmart.

Bowling For Soup. I saw them at the Fairfax Fair a couple years ago. All sorts of washed-up bands play the Fairfax Fair.

99% of pop-punk bands from the 90s and early 2000s. Where did Simple Plan go? Where is Goldfinger? Where is Yellowcard? Where's Good Charlotte?

Remember all the hoopla about The Strokes? They pretty much turned out to be a one hit wonder. Same with Dinosaur Jr.

While true in most cases, there have been exceptions.

Wasn't Oasis on the rise when they self-destructed?

Memory is a little foggy but i think when they debuted Wonderall everyone on MTV said they were going to be the next Beatles. They really flamed out after 2 about albums. Couldn't not have happened to a less deserving group of douches.

Anytime those Noel or Liam were being interviewed there had to be subtitles because those wankers were to lazy to open their mouths and speak comprehensively.
