Atlanta and DC: very much alike !

Im amazed at how much the Atlanta and DC Metro areas are alike. The suburbs look quite the same. Even climate wise its similar (Atlanta is close to the mountains so its not a steam bath like Savannah). The people are very materialistic and money hungry and put jobs above people. Both areas are geographically the South, but culturally Northern. The Marta is as sleazy as the Metro- esp at night. I wouldn't carry too much loose change with me.

Atlanta has less walkability than DC, but since most people live in the 'burbs, its the same kind of horrible rush hour traffic. Sitting at stop lights that last for days. I have to say, actually that DC drivers are more polite than Atlanta.

Fairfax county and Gwynette county are identically fixed with McMansions and rows of sub divisions everywhere you look.

What a fascinating expose!

You could make the argument that most cities in the US look very similar. Small inner core of downtown office buildings w a large ring of sub-divided suburban estates.

In most parts of this country - the poorer areas are located to the south and east of each city. Some of the poorest areas are typically found along MLK Blvd (and there is one in every major city in the US).

ya know..you're right about the poorer areas being in the south and east.

Why is that?

On the east coast it makes sense. Cities are founded on the coast on on rivers with the industrial center, poorer elements living in close in surrounding neighborhoods and richer elements living further out, preferably to the west where the water is less likely to be polluted. Transportation improvements also tend to head towards the west, making it possible for wealthier to live even further away from the city. Eventually people just come to accept that the "good neighborhoods" are in that direction.

ATL has grown tremendously even since I was last there, but it's been a rather large city for quite a while now. However, in all honesty, nowhere else is truly like the D.C. area. When you leave this area you feel somewhat disconnected.

I agree with the OP. Atlanta is also very very transient like DC. You can go for months and never meet anyone native to the area. Its very sprawled out like DC Metro. You have to drive everywhere to get anywhere. Its got a lot more smog than DC, however.

Atlanta Metro also doesnt have any neat hot spots such as Old Town Alexandria. Both DC and Atlanta are also both very Afro-Centric. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Well, thanks for that comparison. Now I know I don't want to live in Atlanta. Whew! One city off the list.

Buckhead was bulldozed over a year ago. All the clubs are gone (thanks niggers).
You can enjoy Screen on the Green: they show a movie on the big screen in Piedmont Park. Oh wait, that's going to end soon thanks to violence (thanks niggers).
Castleberry Hill is a nice arts district in a former warehouse district. Upscale galleries and pizza joins, mixed with local bars and restaurants. It's a nice area. Oh wait, SWAT thugs want a J.R. Crickets there which is a cheap bar so they can mingle with the surrounding pampered black students. It'll be reclaimed by Pittsburgh/Mechanicsville/Englishtown ghetto folks in a few years (thanks niggers),

Niggers in Atlanta ruin everything.
