What's on your bucket list?
Posted by: Merlin ()

What have you got in the back of your mind that you'd
love to do before you die?

Forget about your present situation.

What do you dream about doing?

Hike the Appalachian Trail from GA to Maine. Just need to find 5 months of vacation time plus time for planning/recovery.

A more reasonable bucket list item: hike the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim. An easy thing I think about every year but haven't done.

Seems like a great idea in the beginning, half way through you wonder seriously if you'll survive, and after you wonder if you'll ever fully recover,,

FUN!

rent an expensive motorcycle, build a huge ramp, put said ramp on the edge of above mentioned grand canyon, then get up to 124mph on motorcycle, hit the ramp, and fly to my death.

Nah, the one I was looking at last year was a guided hike, no donkey rides. I think it was 4 days from rim-to-rim, with a few side-hikes. You hiked from camp to camp, tents and food were provided by the operator, so no need for lugging a heavy backpack. You needed to be in decent hiking shape, but none of the tour was rated as "brutal".

I have a friend who hiked the canyon from rim to river and back up. He said that it's about a mile vertically, but its really like 4 miles with all of the switchbacks, it took all day, and was "hell". I'd like to do that as well a step foot on the Anartic continent.

I looked into one of those a few years ago. It sounded really cool but it was really expensive and required alot of time. It was some "eco tour" boat that left from S. Africa and took you to a bunch of remote islands in the south Atlantic (South Georgia, Falklands), then on to Antarctica. Looked pretty interesting if you have a 30 grand and a whole month on your hands.

I made my bucket list back in the 90s and really started working on it a couple of months ago. Here are some things I want to do before I die...

1. Take a trans-Atlantic trip on Pan Am

2. Go to the top of the World Trade Center

3. Eat at Woolworth's lunch counter

4. See Colin Powell become America's first black president

5. Buy lots of tech stock and retire early

I always wanted to write a book about the things I wanted to do in life but never had the time to do, things like writing a book.

I actually did 2 1/2 of those. I did go to the top of the WTC and I did eat at a Woolworth's lunch counter. I also bought a lot of tech stock...but as for the retirement bit....

I notice you didn't say "See Colin Powell become the first African-American President." Some sort of admission that you know that while President Obama is black, he is not African-American because he is not American?

Nope. I just like the blacks the same way The Donald likes the blacks.

But do the blacks like you the same way they like the Donald?

Being "black," I would assume so.

You shouldn't assume that. You could be an Uncle Tom like Clarence Thomas or Condi.
