How much for rear brakes?

I have a Toyota Camry that needs new rear brake pads. About how much should I expect to pay for this service in this area?

Thanks!

You are asking about rear brake pads, and your name is juggs. Interesting.

Probably $500 because NOBODY turns rotors anymore they just get replaced and a set of rotors are at least $200. I usually do my own brakes and replace rotors every 3rd time. Love to find someone to turn the old rotors I have saved in my garage.

I'd expect to pay $200 per axle - on average for this service. However, if more parts are needed, then the rate can go higher.

In response to turning rotors, ironically, Pep Boys does the service - Annandale, Manassas or Woodbridge. A bit out of the way for some people, but could be worth it if you 2-3 sets to have turned. I don't recall the last price I've paid, maybe in the range of $8.00, or so - each.

I've also found that I prefer the Napa Ultra Premium rotors over the OEM flavor. The rotors come "pre-turned" - ready to install without issues. Plus, the non-braking surfaces are painted with a non-corrosive black paint (the vents, hub area, etc.). It makes for a nicer appearance over time if your car has aluminum wheels and you can see more of the rotor - you don't have all that rust and corrosion built up. They normally run $59 - $69, per vehicle - each. Plus, the Fairfax Auto Parts stores have converted over to Napa and now sell that line of parts, making it more accessible than ever.

I just got my rear brakes done on a Honda Accord at Virginia Tire. Total with tax was $233.

Also, they turned the rotors, not replaced them.

It amazes me how much money you can save by doing all the work yourself. Single rotor is about $30-40 at any auto parts store and it shouldnt take longer then 30 minutes per rotor considering you have all the right tools.

On one hand you are correct. The parts can be cheap. However, for the rotors, I'd always advise buying a better quality rotor. The rotors they sell at Autozone for $25.00 or so, will warp faster than the OEM ones will. Also, use ceramic brake pads, when available. They'll wear longer and cut down on that grey dust that tends to build up on your sporty wheels on your car.
