my mother hates the music of my generation. my grandmother hated the music of my mom's generation. i hate the music of the generation behind me. i like many songs from my mom's generation but more from mine. i look hard and search deep for reasons to appreciate newer music but the reality is that for the most part, it stinks. surely if i were born at a later time i would like what i hear, right?
why does this happen? is it learned, innate, or both?

ooo ooo my mom loved "hungry like the wolf" by duran duran. then she read a story about a woman who loved that song so much that she killed her children as it played.
i guess i've had a little luck come my way.

She never confesses to shooting her children, but her conduct at the trial is sickening. She taps her foot and smiles while listening to "Hungry Like the Wolf," the song that was playing in her car while she slaughtered her children; she laughs when she should cry, she cries when it benefits her. One daughter is dead, one has lost the use of her arm and speech, and the little boy is paralyzed. None of this horror seems to penetrate Diane. She has no feelings for her children's suffering.

I have the urge to contribute to this thread, but I'm confused.

My mom really has never been a music fan at all, but my dad was a fan of Pink Floyd and the Alan Parsons Project in the 80s.The APP was an interesting group of session musicians with no particular style, every song on the I Robot album is different. The best song is the title track, which is a sort of jazzy prog rock electronica tune, very cool 70s stuff. Parsons himself is famous for producing Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album, and his group was made famous by Dr. Evil of all people...

California Dreamin' is a great song, probably one of the most covered tunes ever. There was a lot of good stuff in the hippy rock era. Funny thing is that my dad was a teenager in the early 60s but he prefers music from after 1970, when he was in his 20s. He's also a Fleetwood Mac fan.
