Is there a way to help speed up evictions?

This dude who lives in townhouse next to ours hasn't paid any rent and first had a notice on their door from the mort company then 2 months later a notice from police.

After getting notified by police of eviction how long is the wait to get booted out?

He smokes this stuff that smells like dead cats and cloves.

You can steal someone's house for months and never pay a dime or serve ANY time. Try that with a car and it's a whole different story.

The process is lengthy, but favors landlords in VA. Serve a pay or quit notice to the squatter, and I believe they have 7 days, unless the lease states longer. After that, landlord needs to file for the unlawful detainer hearing, where the squatter can come claim innocence and get at least another week, depends on how busy the court is, could be another month or so before the trial. Presuming the squatters lose the trial, which surprisingly is not a guarantee, then the landlord needs to file with the Sheriff for eviction. Could happen that week, more likely another month before actual eviction takes place. Had a case that took three months start to finish, but that was over the holidays when the court had two two day weeks (furlough days and holidays). So it could be faster.

So that notice from the 'police' you saw may have only been a pay or quit notice. But in answer to your question...no.
