I've been thinking about this for a while now, and I can't seem to decide exactly how I feel about it.
.....is lettuce, as a food, really necessary? Now, I know what you're going to say--"of course it is--without lettuce, we wouldn't have salad". You're right. But let's take salads out of the equation. Salad aside, would you really care, or even notice, if there was no more lettuce? Even in a salad, lettuce isn't the star--it's just like, 'we have to put something in here to make a salad--how about lettuce?' It's the least important condiment on a hamburger, or a taco. I feel that lettuce really doesn't do much for food overall. It tastes of nothing, really. It's not as useless as capers, or green onions, or jimmies (sprinkles).....but I dunno....lettuce definitely doesn't seem very necessary to me. I mean, did you ever hear anyone go "Wow!--this lettuce is simply divine!!" ?
What do you think? Is lettuce unnecessary? Would your life really be much different in a world without lettuce?

I apologize to those I unfairly hurt. To Harry Tuttle in particular.
