I remember Northern Virginia in the 1980s back when folks spoke English and a lot of scenery was untouched. I would play Nintendo Video Games with my friends. You could drive on Rt 7 and not sit in traffic for 4 hours at a time. It was a 2 lane highway back then. So was Rt 50 and Rt 28. Daddy would come home every evening at 6:30 and we'd all have chicken and mashed potatoes for supper. Mom loved to make pecan pies. In the summer time, Algonqiuan Park was the place to go to swim. They kept out a lot of the hooligans somehow. It was nice and clean. We would go to High's Dairy Store and get ourselves an ice cream cone and a coke.


Nowadays, you have youth gangs, angry government workers, and uppity orientals everywhere. Oh I wish they would bring back the good 'ol days!

LOL I was thinking this was a Meade thread, but the subject was about Northern VA, not the usual love for Richmond.

When Meade talks of NoVa, I think he's hinting at Loudoun County mostly lol.

I do agree that the time period mentioned was better in many ways though, especially with less traffic, and fewer beaners. Then again, I was just a kid, so it was fun regardless.

No it's true, everywhere I go, when someone says that the 80's in northern va was the prime of their life... they are ALWAYS white trash

But know you are qualifying it. Before, you said EVERYONE who grew up here in the 80s, now, you are saying not only did they grow up here, but they also say the 80s was the prime of their life. I am sure if you think about it, you might be able to come up with a few more qualifiers. I, for one, grew up here in the 80s and would hardly consider myself white trash. I remember my childhood fondly, but would not classify it as the prime of my life.
