Long story short, American and German authorities are stepping up to investigate Google's Street View and the fact it recorded communications sent over wifi.
It said it had been using a fleet of camera-equipped Street View vehicles, which take pictures for the group's imaging services, and had been at the same time using the cars to assemble a database of electronic WiFi addresses intended to improve the functioning of its maps and other location services.

It all garbage communications. There's no US law for picking up wireless communications unless the party that picks them up use the information for something or discloses it. Google will be fine in the US if they destroy the information.

they already offered to destroy it but the govs are probing the data to see what they collected. i think some coder added in the code to find/map hotspots and it got into a fleet of cars but then it was later removed. only 600 cars had the logging going. it's just good that google didnt try to cover it up like most giant businesses would. the truth will set you free.
