Yep. The Republicans have fucked themselves.

It's funny how Fox keeps touting the bad poll numbers for Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. They fail to mention that the Republicans numbers in Congress are nearly as bad as the Dems. The only person with decent numbers is Obama. His are actually starting to go back up because of this victory. And the Republicans throwing tantrums on the floor of the House and shouting "Baby Killer" won't help their image.

Sadly, I feel as though the opposite is true with regard to Republican followers. "Death Panels" "You Lie!" and "Baby Killer" are all things that numb-nutted, middle-class, middle-American's rally behind. These (and I cringe at calling them by this title) lawmakers are only shouting and spouting this bullshit because they know that their supporters will cheer them for it. Republican? Up for re-election? Seeking a higher office? Want to appear on FOX News and/or Rush Limbaugh's radio show? ...you know what you need to do.

And they're going to look more like idiots trying to stop this train with the frivolous lawsuits and teabagging complaints.

Actually the funniest part is that they've also kicked Romney squared in the nuts for 2012 considering some of the healthcare package is modelled after his own approach in MA (something that Gibbs keeps jabbing him about).

No doubt there are GOP supporters that love this sort of stuff. It only serves to splinter the Republican party more.

Having a State mandate health care coverage, and having the Federal government do it are two different things. As far as lawsuits go - you keep forgetting that in truth, the majority of "real" people (outside the beltway folks) are, and have been, against this bill. The funny part is the fact that MA voted in a Republican to replace Kennedy - who campaigned on making it is his mission to be the vote against health care passing.

My point is that Mitch, arguably the strongest presidential contender for the GOP, just lost his WMD in the races.

Good luck with the lawsuits. By the time it comes together (if it comes together), it will have been too late.

Pretty funny huh?

The United States Congress passed the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) in 1986. EMTALA requires hospitals and ambulance services to provide care to anyone needing emergency treatment regardless of citizenship, legal status or ability to pay. EMTALA applies to virtually all hospitals in the U.S but includes no provisions for reimbursement. The law is therefore considered an "unfunded safety net program" for patients seeking care at the nation's emergency rooms.[11][12] As a result of the 1986 EMTALA legislation, hospitals across the country faced unpaid bills and mounting expenses to care for the uninsured

When 10 states start filing lawsuits and asking for injunctions (coming) then it will surely get fast-tracked to SCOTUS.

This is really a shame. I was looking forward to the inevitable polygamy legislation that only a Romney administration would/could produce.

Yeah - while Romney is probably the best voice from a business point of view (at the moment) he has been a target of the media to ensure his Mormon background gets full coverage when he runs for office. Too bad really - but no, he has little chance of being the nominee.

My money is on Romney being the nominee. Palin won't run, and she wouldn't get it anyway. It will be similar to the situation Democrats were facing in 2004. They disliked Bush so intensely the only real consideration was finding a candidate who could win. Dean, who was the progressive's choice, was considered too risky and Kerry looked like the safest, surest bet. It's a shame really. Romney could be a good candidate who might appeal to a lot of Independents and moderate Democrats if he didn't feel like he had to run so hard to the right and stayed closer to his actual beliefs.

Wish you guys would get your story straight. Seems like most of the folks here are salivating over Palin running and being the nominee.

I am going to say "none of the above". It will either be Pawlenty or someone yet to be named. All of the others are so tainted by the last election and current slams by the MSM I can't see any of them making it.

Sure V - the "no pre-existing condition", can't be dropped from a plan for costing too much, etc. Those are the common points most people want from health care. The problem is in paying for it - in particular coverage for everyone.

I have to laugh - who do you think they pissed off the most with this? Imagine if you are the 15 million folks that didn't have health insurance, AND you didn't want to pay for it. Those folks have to be livid. And when they get this immigration reform pushed through, that will add the 20 million illegals to the "fix" - and most of them will NOT be paying for it.

Too funny.

Too bad the CNN, and CBS polls BOTH showed a nearly 60% Nationwide opposition to the so called "Obamacare Bill", even after its passage.

Yes, of course Obama's numbers might spike a few points here and there, because he actually "did something". However, his chances at a second term just diminished greatly, and he knows that he's screwed unless he can legalize some 20 million Hispanics.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/23/obama-democrats-begin-rea_n_510563.html

According to a Gallup/USA Today poll conducted the day after health care legislation passed the House of Representatives, 49 percent of the respondents think the passage of reform is a "good thing," compared to the 40 percent who think it is bad. The numbers are a welcome relief for a party and a presidency that had been bleeding popular support over the course of the past six months.

Democrats didn't just get a health-care-related boost in the realm of public opinion. The Democratic National Committee reported raising more than $1 million in donations on Tuesday even without making a direct ask. The money is expected to pour in for other campaign committees as well.

That would actually be a shame, because Romney was the first candidate that I got behind during the 2008 election season. I think that he has a great level of articulation, presence, and an overall understanding of what needs to be done to keep this country on track.

Two polls stating a nearly 60% opposition to it (Both CNN and CBS had their polls within two percentage points of eachother), and one cited by the Huff states 40% (Which is a major lowball). Average it regardless, and that's still over 50% against it (ie, a Majority).

As for the donations, you should check-out the amount of support going towards Obamacare opponents. Oh wait, it already happened in Mass., when Scott Brown jacked a Kennedy seat in their own backyard. Stupak is next. You see, the DNC can receive all the donations it wants, but that doesn't compare to the proven Tea Party results, and the specific targeting of individuals who voted "Yea" for this bill.

If you watched Jay Leno last night, he even made fun of the fact that a majority of Americans were against it, yet Congress declared that we wanted it. That's coming from a guy who isn't even a Conservative, but who recognizes the reality. I heard similar statements from consistent liberals as well, who are mad that Congress simply won't listen to the people. This goes BEYOND partisanship, because it's about our representatives ignoring the people they're supposed to represent.

Hey Vince, why not just post with your own name - are you afraid no one will read it? lol. It's the common commentary that gives it away - and the unlikely coincidence it comes just as you post in another thread with your account. What a douche.

Partisanship all the time, everywhere

No, Obama has thrown down the gauntlet, and is trying to reify the sloganeering of the 1960s. He apparently reasons along the following lines: that centrist talk was campaign fluff; the voters fell for it, and now it’s his turn to remake America with 51% of the House and 44% of the people. Think Sweden, or, better, Greece as our model at home, and something like America as Brazil in matters of foreign policy. Apparently, Obama figures that people now may not like the present partisanship, but they didn’t like FDR at the time either. Yet whom do they associate their Social Security checks with? Hoover? Coolidge? Harding?

I don’t see why the ram-it-through, health care formula won’t be followed by similar strategies for blanket amnesty, cap and trade, and expansions of the state takeover of cars, banks, student loans, and energy.

Remember, all these will be packaged as “comprehensive” reform — comprehensive health care, comprehensive immigration, comprehensive energy, comprehensive monitoring of even the banal decisions we make. So what does comprehensive really mean, other than all of us are going to get even more official looking letters in the mail, advising us to fill out a form, pay a fine, and be warned that a new regulation or tax is on the way — followed by the usual state/federal representative’s newsletter bragging about some new entitlement that he “won” for us with our borrowed money?
...

Looks like the GOP Senators will tell the tale going forward. It won't even be worth their while to create a bipartisan bill in the Senate where they offer compromise - the House can pass as partisan a bill as they want with a simple majority, and then pass a reconciliation bill as long as they know 51 Senators will vote for it.
