Congressional mis-information
Posted by: FUNdamental ()

So, I am watching CSPAN this afternoon, and VIrginia Fox from North Carolina comes on to talk opposition to Health Care reform. "Federal funded abortions, blah blah, unfunded mandate, blah blah, trillion dollar expenditures, blah blah, tax increases, blah blah, " and she finishes.

So I called her office and a woman answering said, with no real accent, "Representative Foxx's office." So I said in a southern dialect "I just saw her on the TV, SEE-SPUN, and thought she did a terrific job."

The chick that answered the phone said "why thank you" now in a heavy southern accent).

I jumped in "But she forgot to mention death pannels"

earlier this year

Representative Foxx has since not mentioned death panels, or corrected her earlier statements, after being called on it by CNN a few months back.

I then continued "Do you think she could go back and mention death panels?"

The woman now sounding like the biggest hick on the planet said "there is a lot to say here. I will tell Representative Foxx that you called and will pass on this message to her."

I said "Thanks, hon."

And she said "Thank you for calling, now."

My question is, do these congressional offices have a onus to tell people calling that there are no death panels in the bill, since these representatives were the ones dispersing the mis-information in the first place?

Do not confuse facts with message. The message the republican party is spreading is 98% lies.

So you equate a Southern accent, so someone being a "hick"? Remind me again, who happens to be the ignorant one?

No; she went from no accent, to a heavy southern accent, to hick accent.
I was very clear assorting the three.

Better a "hick accent", than the gargling sound you make most nights as a pro.

Damn, you're making her sound like a Transformer lol. I'd like to hear a recording of a call to that office, because this is a must hear for sure.

The Republican party is dead. 5-15 years ago they could make up all sorts of stuff and people would believe them. Now with the internet people can look up facts and see which ones are correct.

Death panels and birthers, Republicans have lost their minds.

Kind of like the leftist loons who blame 9/11 on Bush, or who attempt to call Republicans racist, despite the only Klansman in the House being a Democrat, right? I mean, Democrats didn't lost their minds a long time ago. No, it must all be a bad nightmare that'll go away in the morning.

Do you have an onus to be honest and forthcoming when making these calls, or are you free to be untruthful and deceptive?

Hey, she is the one that claimed seniors would be being killed if this bill passes, not me. She is the one that never retracted her assertion, not me. As far as I know, Rep. Foxx still believe there are death panels in the bill, and I am disappointed she didn't mention it yesterday.

I also enjoyed her work with the Fugees, especially the single "Killing Me Softly (Using Death Panels)."

"I said in a southern dialect." - Do you normally speak in a southern dialect?

"thought she did a terrific job." - So, you thought she did a terrific job?

Yeah, no deception there. You should be proud of your G. Gordon Liddy stealthiness in outsmaring a 19 year old intern.

No mainstream political party spreads 100% lies, or even 98% lies. Otherwise, people would quickly figure out just to believe the opposite of whatever they say.

The effective political party spreads 50% lies, because that maximizes the entropy of discernible truth behind any one statement. This is how the Republicans and Democrats became the leading political parties today. The reason 3rd parties can't grab a foothold is because they either spread close to 0% lies (like the too-earnest Ron Paul or Ralph Nader types) or they spread close to 100% lies (usually world-domination groups like ANSWER or white-supremacist parties).

The reason 3rd parties can't grab a foothold is that we have majority rule in the Congress. We don't have a Parliamentary system, like you see in most of Europe, where 3rd Parties like the Greens and the Conservatives can forge coalitions with other more moderate parties and then cut a deal so that the minority party can appoint the "Homeland Secretary" or some other secretary or minister.

People here like to think it's a big conspiracy, but it's not. It's the structure of the government that's at issue. If you want to blame anyone, blame the Founding Fathers.
