FFU Polictical Party
Posted by: Smoker ()
Date: March 19, 2010 02:43PM

Since everybody is starting their own political party these days FFU should have one also.

At FFU we stand for:

-Pot smoking and all drugs legal
-Tinted windows allowed regardless of amount of tint
-If you simply says you weren't speeding your ticket is thrown out
-No speed humps
-No wire tapping or seizure of assets
-All police records are public
-Every Fairfax county resident must attend the Dulles Expo gun show

The owners of Alto Plaza, Blue Ridge Arsenal, and Trummer's on Main are huge donors to the party.

Garbage bags as political rally-wear are introduced, as the spittle flies far and often when one FFXU blowhard-pontificator announces his candidacy......and his speech runs for 3 days.

I don't really think I am on the "extreme right". Conservative yes - extreme - um not. Much more of a libertarian for the most part.

People accuse me of being liberal, but I am actually more of a fiscal conservative and more libertarian on social issues (live and let live). About the only thing that tags me as "liberal" is that I don't believe the government is necessarily "the enemy" because if you accept the concept of the "social contract," which is the basis of our representative democracy, WE are the government.

You ever had to deal with a Federal government agency on some issue important to you? Believe me - they don't know what a "social contract" is, let alone responding to you in a civil manner once you start asking questions. They know how to answer the phone - they just will not give you answers. And I am not talking about Representatives - I am talking about Social Security, Medicare, etc. Those Federal offices don't really care to help you.

Yes, that sucks. But have you ever dealt with a cable company or insurance company or any other large private venture that does the same shit? Just because the Federal government spawns bureaucracy, that doesn't make it an evil entity that needs to be taken apart. The government has done many good things. Things that you rely on every day, from the highways you drive on to the Internet you complain on. I try to be a realist and recognize that neither public nor private sectors have all of the answers. But just because neither has all of the answers doesn't mean that either is intrinsicly bad or evil.

private industry and the government...? Same thing. America is more and more like a corporation, and the big corporations are more and more like America. There's not much difference anymore between corporation and government. It's the same thing, basically. You have almost more to fear from the major corporations of the world than you do from the government....the world has gone corporate. America is a corporation. And you own a tiny fraction of a share while a few fat, bloated white men hold the rest...which makes you powerless. You are not represented. There is no one representing you. You are fucked. I am fucked. WE ARE ALL F-U-C-K-E-D.

...except for the very small percentage that isn't. And they're running the show, folks. Don't think for a second they aren't. You can't make it. You are not allowed. You do not belong. They OWN YOU. And if you have to ask who "they" is (and I know, RV, you will), then you're NOT FUCKING PAYING ATTENTION!

Sorry, but for all the labeling of the health care industry as bad guys lately my personal experiences with my provider lately have been great. I have been in customer service type jobs for years - especially as a contractor - I was always the POC. Folks that work for the government do not know what customer service is, because rarely do they lose their jobs if they piss someone off.

WTL made the point that the government wasn't all bad - not "the enemy". I am not saying they are an active enemy, what I am saying is that they have no incentive to provide service to anyone other than as part of their job. In the private sector, rarely do you hear the "that's not in my job description" mantra. It is a common phrase in the government. They are bloated, inefficient, and there is no incentive to think beyond what is in front of them - the whole environment is actually setup to discourage doing anything above and beyond.

In general, in the private sector you are dependent on your customers. There are some sectors where that is not true - power and utilities, water, etc. But almost any private sector business in a competitive environment - customer service is usually where the companies are differentiated. They need your business - the Federal government looks at you as a means to an end - and you can't go to anyone else for most of what they provide.

I got a taste of the fucked up-idness of our healthcare system firsthand a year ago when I needed IV antibiotic treatment for an infection in my hip, broken the year earlier when I was hit by a truck. Someone--somewhere--made the GENIUS decision that my insurance would only cover the treatments if I physically made the trip to the hospital, everyday, with a broken hip and a broken leg, a two hour daily commute with optimal traffic conditions. Home treatment was not covered (even though it WAS a year earlier when I first had the accident).

In other words--someone would have to take me to the hospital, battling DC metro area traffic daily for 3 months so I could get the antibiotics that I needed to keep my leg from falling off. That, of course, was just not possible. I was immobile. There was no one to make that kind of daily sacrifice for me. I was screwed. I don't know who it came down to to make this decision on my behalf, but I did not appreciate it, as I'm sure you can understand. Someone in an office out in Bumfuck Arkansas, working for an insurance company, was telling me I couldn't get the treatment I needed (unless I bent to their arbitrary and apparently senseless conditions, which were not an option for me). This happens everyday in America. Our healthcare system is FUCKED. When someone sitting in an office a thousand miles away starts telling you they aren't going to cover you for god knows what reason, something is wrong. No, they won't turn you away if you come stumbling through their doors with a hatchet buried in your shoulder.....but they WILL make you choose between your arm and paying an astronomical amount of money you don't have, if it comes down to it. If you're that guy, socialized healthcare would sound pretty good to you. Me? I'm pretty fond of my leg, so now I'm counting on a big cash settlement to dig me out of financial ruin. If that doesn't come through for me, I'm screwed, glued and tattooed.

I retired from a Federal agency that emphasizes "Customer Service" from the
top down. Any valid complaint from John Q. Public was investigated and
dealt with accordingly on a case by case basis. OTOH, I have also dealt
with many John Q. Public's whose perception of Federal workers with way
out of line with reality. Here are a few things that will help you find
what you wish.

1) When you call a Federal agency to complain about a policy issue, do
not jump all over the switchboard operator over policy issues. The
operators have nothing to do with policy.

2) Know what specifically what it is that you wish to discuss before you make your initial call. In other words, if you call the Treasury and tell them
you want to talk about "policy issues", don't expect to get anywhere
until you can be specific. They are not mind readers.

3) Do not start out your conversation by shouting "I'M A TAXPAYER AND....."
(they are taxpayers too)

4) Once you have established a proper contact, make note of it for
future references. Stay with one contact as they will be familiar with
your particular subject matter. If you are unhappy with the service you
receive, ask to speak to a supervisor.

5) Be cordial and businesslike. If you make threats you will have no
credibility and less likely to receive cooperation. Push it too far and
you will receive a visit from the Secret Service or the FBI.

6) Have a nice day.
