Best Site for Singles?

I'm in a serious dating slump right now and thought about using dating sites to meet someone. Does anyone have any recommendations? eharmony and chemistry.com look pretty promising.

First, a little more information; male or female. age, single or divorced?

As soon as you tell eharmoney you would "consider" going out with someone with kids, that's all they will match you up with.

jdate has you "rate" your date and if you want to see the person again via an online form. That sucks.

If you are a woman over 35, match.com is full of loser men.

If you are a man over 35, match.com is a great place to meet women. However, don't waste you time with women in their twenties; they treat match.com as a social network, not an introduction service.

If you are single in your 20's, you kinda have to be on match.com. That being said, make sure you arrange, no matter what, on how the date will be paid for (Him, you, dutch, etc.), beforehand. If you are a man, this step is crucial, many women use "dates" to lower their grocery bills.

I am glad I meet my wife the old fashioned way-in a bar.

If she orders the appetizer, it means she expects you to pay. When she orders the bottle of wine, immediately say you don't drink "and perhaps you should order a glass instead".

My mom recently suggested I try internet dating.

"That's brilliant!" I thought. "Certainly I can meet someone who likes traveling, reading, music, staying active, hanging out, friends, animals, and cooking on the internet!"

No luck so far, though. They're apparently really hard to find.

I think that falls under the "traveling" and "staying active" categories.

I got some sweet tips from a friend of mine, though. When I put up a new profile, and it asks me what kind of music I like, I'll put "I'm open to anything." It shows that I'm open-minded and enjoy trying new things.

This is generally a good litmus test in any situation. If a person says "I like all kinds of music", it usually means they have no culture and are easily entertained. If that's the type of person you are yourself, of course, then you should make a good couple.

With these dating services, do you get a chance to chat on line with the candidates... banter back and forth... find out how their minds work?
What if the guy couldn't make me laugh or even smile? Why would I bother meeting him in the first place, no matter how many long walks on the beach he likes to take?
I can take long walks alone.

My personal least favorite is "I like art." Of course, "art" can be applied to every creative endeavor, but generally they mean the visual end of the spectrum (photography, paintings, etc). Unless you're an art major or an art teacher or an actual artist, just say you've been to the museums once or twice.

The question "What kind of music do you like?" is such a played line... It's right up there with "What's your favorite color?".

When someone asks me what kind of music I like, I just semi-coherently name every band I can think of, even the ones I don't like, until they lose interest.

You can send each other messages, but if you have a shred of originality or humor, you'll get burned out quickly. I would take the time to write an original, well-thought-out message, and if I got a response at all, nine out of ten times it would be something like, "LOL u sound like a lot of fun! :) What do you do?!" Complete turn-off.

After a week or two, you realize the five or ten minutes it takes to write one of these works of literature could be better spent, I don't know, poking yourself in the eye.

Exactly the problem. Most of the people on those sites are too risk averse to even try to be creative. If they wanted to take risks, they'd go outside and find someone.

The rest of the people are jaded because they are, apparently, surrounded by nothing but @aol.yawn types and see no reason to put any effort into it.

It's a catabolic spiral.

Here's one that really grinds my gears: "family is very important to me". I should hope family is important to you, ya' dumb git; it's important to most normal human beings. And when they say "I have a sarcastic sense of humor"...sarcasm is not a positive quality; what you mean to say is 'facetious'. If you really went around making sarcastic comments all the time, you'd be a huge asshole.

and here's one to challenge the old "I like all types of music" chestnut:

I love klezmer and other traditional Eastern European styles. If you like this, bitch, then I'll marry you. And if you can't point to anything particular like this when I ask what kind of music you like, I just assume you have no real taste for music (and a lot of people don't...the existence of top 40 radio proves that). You don't have to like weird shit like me...just have SOMETHING that interests you...

Internet dating is like getting a sitcom on TV; the dumber, broader and less interesting, the better your chances.

Seriously though, asking "what kind of music do you like?" is a losing battle. The answer will be too specific, too vague, or just plain inaccurate. There is no good way to answer a trite question like that.

You'd be more honest by saying, "I ran out of things to talk about... your turn."

Cougar Life - The Ultimate Catch

What is a Cougar?

Cougars are Women in their PRIME: independent, sexy and wildly successful. They enjoy men that are youthful, fit with the same zest for life. Cougars are classy, confident women that already possess many of the finer things in life — but now want the young, hot guy to go with it.
What is a Cub?

To snare a true Cougar a man needs to be youthful, fit, unintimidated and of course sexually driven! These men can range from athletes to intellectuals, and from technologists to entrepreneurs and all points in between; they can come in all shapes and sizes, but one thing they have in common is the desire to possess a sexually charged older woman.

Surprise..surprise...dating services..porn and FFXU..perhaps if you just pushed away from your computer every once in a while you'd be able to get date without the internet. But then again..youd have to take your lips from around the RV/Gravis/JR cock..and you dont want to do that.
