Supporters-Only Democrat's Healthcare Bill Ceremony

At the House healthcare bill ceremony this morning, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer called the development of the Democrat’s bill "the most deliberative, transparent and open process" he had seen in his career on Capitol Hill.

The ceremony was closed to the public.

Only pre-approved visitors whose names appeared on lists to enter the event at the West side of the Capitol were allowed. The audience at the crowded press conference included Hill staffers, union workers, health care providers and students, according to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who thanked them for attending.

That bill is going nowhere. Ever. I regret to say that it is only a palliative for the left-kook base.

Same for the ceremony. Even Rangel took a bow - literally - to applause at the event. I was there.

Sham.

If Republicans had supported it, they would have been there as well.

Something will get passed. Not sure how effective it will be, but something will get done.

Well, sure.

But the Dems closed off a public place for their little (premature) victory party. No public allowed. (Screw the Republicans.)

Stupid politicians (both sides).

The problem is that now we're looking at a 2,000 page bill though. What in the hell is in it?

From [www.washingtontimes.com]:

"The steps of the Capitol are and should be open to the public," Minority Whip Eric Cantor, Virginia Republican, said on the House floor Thursday night. But House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer, Maryland Democrat, denied the charge.

"I was there. I saw nobody turned away. I saw nobody precluded from attending," he told Mr. Cantor.

Videos posted on YouTube, including by Mr. Cantor's office, showed people being turned away by staffers or police. In the video from Mr. Cantor's office, a police officer tells a Republican staffer they are being denied access "per the speaker's staff."

No one knows, least of all Congress. I only got through half of the original bill prior to the town hall meetings. Neither Warner nor Webb could speak on the contents with any authority and the jury is still out as to whether Connolly and Moran can even read.

It will be a historic event when a bill with a public option gets passed. It is a sign of true leadership that democrats have made what the majority of people want...despite the efforts of the loud mouth minority...a hopeful reality. godbless speaker Pelosi and Sen Reid.
