From 1983 until 1995 and Bob’s death after a long illness, every week he’d paint and keep up a running commentary in his everybody’s-grandfather voice, explaining how to paint the way he did.
But he did more than that. He’d tell stories about his time in Alaska, not to mention his love of the wilderness and of animals. (He’d often nurse injured or sick or just weak squirrels and other wild animals back to health, sometimes bringing them into the studio for a visit). And in little asides, he’d give insight into his view of the world and of art. He was famous for saying “we don’t make mistakes, we make happy little accidents,” and that was a big part of what I call (without sarcasm) his philosophy.

he must have been on uppers 24/7 because i swear, if his house burned down, he wouldnt take the day off, he would paint a picture of where he would live next.
on a side note: i cant help but wonder how many times he accidentally got paint on his hair.

I'm not much on art and have no ability to draw, but Bob Ross was mesmerizing. I can remember nursing a hangover, clicking on that show on Saturday or Sunday morning and being totally hypnotized. Very mellow, zen-like, and calming. The shit that guy could paint out of nothing was fantastic.

I used to work next door to him and talked to him regularly. He was a super nice guy and actually talked me into trying my hand at painting. Unfortunately, I just didn't have the knack for it.

i enjoyed his tv show
