Tea Baggers and Congressman upset over Metro!
Posted by: FUNdamental ()

From the Wall Street journal.

Brody Mullins reports on money and politics.

Protesters who attended Saturday’s Tea Party rally in Washington found a new reason to be upset: Apparently they are unhappy with the level of service provided by the subway system.

Rep. Kevin Brady asked for an explanation of why the government-run subway system didn’t, in his view, adequately prepare for this past weekend’s rally to protest government spending and government services.

Seriously.

The Texas Republican on Wednesday released a letter he sent to Washington’s Metro system complaining that the taxpayer-funded subway system was unable to properly transport protesters to the rally to protest government spending and expansion.

“These individuals came all the way from Southeast Texas to protest the excessive spending and growing government intrusion by the 111th Congress and the new Obama administration,” Brady wrote. “These participants, whose tax dollars were used to create and maintain this public transit system, were frustrated and disappointed that our nation’s capital did not make a great effort to simply provide a basic level of transit for them.”

A spokesman for Brady says that “there weren’t enough cars and there weren’t enough trains.” Brady tweeted as much from the Saturday march. “METRO did not prepare for Tea Party March! More stories. People couldn’t get on, missed start of march. I will demand answers from Metro,” he wrote on Twitter.

Brady says in his letter to Metro that overcrowding forced an 80-year-old woman and elderly veterans in wheelchairs to pay for cabs. He concludes that it “appears that Metro added no additional capacity to its regular weekend schedule.”

My favorite comment from the piece was "Besides Rep. Kevin Brady, you know who else wanted the trains to run on time? Mussolini. Hey, I’m just sayin…."

We are up against stupidity.

By the way, this guy was asked if we should teach "English Only" in our schools. His response was "Hell Yes." My guess is he didn't take a Latin based language in high school, or he slept through class.

Not more government spending, but smarter government spending. If you realized how many Millions and Billions of dollars our government has in surplus bonds and the like, that are never put towards their intended use, I dare say that you'd flip a conniptive fit.

Under normal circumstances I would agree. However, The person made a sign. I should assume he read the sign several times before he marched with it. To not see the mistakes and fix them after he made the sign is an indication of under-education.

If you are to use a sign to communicate a thought or idea, then the communication you use should be clear and at least appear to be well thought out. In the above case, as well as the case below, neither was displayed.

Actually I saw the video where they spoke to the guy. Later in the protest he had added an "A" to the DIPERS (penned in with different color ink)... although it still said POLITIANS

Maybe though, he really meant this:

Po⋅li⋅tian
  /poʊˈlɪʃən/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [poh-lish-uhn]
–noun
(Angelo Poliziano) 1454–94, Italian classical scholar, teacher, and poet.

Just sayin..

One would have to presume they are talking about modern politicians. Most of the folks that were involved in the early days, while no doubt motivated by greed to some extent, still believed in things like God, Country and Family.

Today it is Power, Money, and whatever.

Perhaps they want to privatize it? Think: USPS vs. FedEx service levels.

When FedEx figures out how to transport an envelope across the country for under 50 cents we will talk.

Metro, as inefficient and poorly run as it is, is an apt metaphor for DC in general.

Again Under information.

The usps breaks the country into zones. I believe there are 4 or 5 of them. If you mail something first class "in zone i.e Baltimore to Richmond, it stands a better than 99% chance of being there the next business day.

One zone away, you have better than 99% chance it being delivered by the second business day.

All first class mail will be delivered in 3 business days - even Guam to Puerto Rico.

Priority mail is rip off because they guarantee 2-3 delivery, when first class mail will get there at the same time.

And if you don't believe me, even FEDEX acknowledges the USPS can deliver overnight by saying "when it absolutely, positively has th be there overnight". So FEDEX is going for the 1%.

Again - assuming facts not in evidence. Also forward looking assumptions.

OK asswhipe, there were 4 other MAJOR events in DC that day
1) Kennedy Center Open house
2) Adams Morgan Day
3) Black Family Re-union
4) Opera in the outfield

Metro handled the crowds just fine. Senator Brady is just making shit up. Yes I have gotten on the metro when it was crowded and that is a way of life. Your $3 fare does not guaranty you a seat.

No major reports that metro failed at all that day - except from that Senator who did not ride it. .

I doubt those protesters were able to figure out how to use the metro. Hopefully some of them got turned around and were lost at the Navy Yard.

Hey that Metro thing is tough. I missed 4 hours of my protest time wandering around that red line station place where i was supposed to transfer. I had a great sign too.

And the sad part is FedEx offices are closed on Saturday while many USPS offices are open.

Here is something to think about: A million conservatives took time, their own money and effort to gather from all points across this nation in our nation's capitol. The pundits seem to be forgetting one thing, there are "millions "of conservatives, libertarians, and those with no political affiliation other than wanting government to get off their backs that could not go to Washington D.C. .
The great elite powers in Washington need only to realize one thing. The next time when this many conservatives, libertarians, and those that want government to get off their backs show up, we will be in much greater numbers and we won't be so peaceful the next time.

More like 70,000; there were no crowds past Third Street NW.

The next time when this many

Did you realize you have "next time" at the beginning and ending of the same sentence?

BTW, is this statement a threat against the government? Are you threatening to overthrow the government?

Here is something to think about: if your people didn't fail the American public, then you'd have more of a leg to stand on. Another thing, there weren't a million people there; more estimates have it in the tens of thousands.

I firmly believe that the Republicans can and will reclaim the House in 2010 and 2012, and possibly the Senate) in 2012, especially if Obama, Pelosi, Reid, et al, keep pushing the hard-left agenda.

I was in D.C. last week, with 2 million other Patriots who want the Dems and Obama consigned to the dustb in of history. For every person who came to D.C., there were probably 50 who wanted to, but couldn't. We are on the rise, and coming back - and the Left is scared.

The more that the Dems, any Dems, are associated with the radical left agenda of Obama, the worse it will be for them in '10 and '12. I don't see any groundswell of support for Dems. Quite the contrary, they are holding on solely by relying on their hard-left base. Independents are already swinging right; many of them who voted for Obama in '08 already regret it.

Harry Reid will likely lose next year, and he's the Senate Majority Leader! John Corzine will likley be thrown out of the Governor's mansion in NJ in less than 2 months.

I also predict that some Blue-Dog Dems may swith to "Independent" before 2010, using the legitimate rationale that they can no longer serve their constituents' interests as part of a Democrat Party that continues to pursue an agenda that the citizenry does NOT want.

In short, I'm extremely optimistic about the future, even though today looks grim.

Well I would consider them major events metro wise since 3 out of the 4 all happened at the same time. And each heavily advertised that the participants take public transportation.

And you believe that the people will so sick of the "radical left wing agenda" they will jump ship and join those who believe that Obama is not a citizen, the Earth is 6000 years old, give away guns but deny any health care, give tax breaks to the wealthy and wish to deny poor kids health insurance or a lunch at school.

In trying to refute a rising tide of politics against them, the liberals have no serious argument when they keep referencing misspellings on a sign at the protest.

In your own insipid way you made my point. Your writing skills are abysmal as well.

Pancakes,

Please refrain from further outbursts until you learn how to communicate effectively.

Thank you,

By changing your screen name you hide neither your poor writing skills nor your meager education.

Pancakes,

Perhaps you should switch to waffles as they retain more of my sugary goodness. This will better assist you in your quest for knowledge.

As of now, you are following conVince when he uttered:

“Frequently wrong, but never in doubt.”

That's not a great way to live life by following advice from conVince.

Warm Regards,
Syrup

Political debate on Fairfax Underground is like watching people walk into a glass wall over and over again. It doesn't matter which side they approach the wall from, they're still going to be stuck in the glass box. It doesn't matter how hard they hit it, because they are never going to break the glass so that others can see in.

Nonsense posted, time for bed.
