This is the typical strategy of how to win a battle and loose the war.

I dunno...mass killing of civilians in Dresden seemed to have the desired effect with the Nazis.

we are at war, mistakes happen.

however, we go to great lengths to try to avoid civilian casualties. we could obliterate the entire area to take out our targets without question but instead we invest billions and use sophisticated technologies to identify what should be done. for the USA, destroying the enemy is easy but what is difficult is only destroying the enemy.

The fire bombings of Dresden would have considered war crimes if we had lost the war. It was a case of stooping to the same level of depravity as your enemy...and it is debatable how effective the bombings were 12 weeks before the end of the war. The fate of Nazi Germany had already been sealed..Dresden bombings were just pay back.

No doubt we do make efforts to not kill civilians..at least I hope we do. That isnt the issue..the issue is whether such incidents are repetitive (despite our efforts) and whether they are effective in helping us win or loose the war.
