Make sure the Firefox add-ons come from a reliable source. Some add-ons in firefox contain hacking code that capture your key strokes.

Firebug can help you determine if Firefox is accessing the internet and sending info unexpected.

I've been using Firefox since it basically released, and I'm happy enough with it. A lot of add-ons are pointless or poorly-made, but the handful that are good really make browsing easier. I used Opera for a little while not too long ago, I loved the speed dial feature, but I was encountering too many crashes/bugs for my taste.
