Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
Well, tecnically, Maryland, but if we're talking about the Old Confederate states, then it is Virginia.
Its odd that people move here expecting us to be so Southern. The only Southern state less Southern than Virginia is Florida. People need to get over the past and move on. Northern Virginia well represents the spirit of The New South. Its bigger and better, and better educated, and doesn't care about waving the Rebel flag all over the place. I'm so glad that we are not the backwater we used to be.. Well, except for Manassas.

Northern Virginia is just strip malls and suburbia. Its not like its really "Northern" either.

Its more northern than southern but it is kind of a weird area of just a bunch of asses in one place.

More technically, it's actually West Virginia. Let me 'splain. What is now WV was at the time of the Civil War part of Virginia. After Virginia seceded, the western part of the state voted to secede from Virginia. Bit less than 2 years later, they were admitted to the Union, but since WV has that bit that sticks out at the top, for a while there there were rebels living almost as far north as New York City.

Simple. The South is anything below the "sweet Tea line". There is no better cultural demarcation.

Southern is where people are friendlier, the women are better looking, the iced tea is sweet, and things are in general just more relaxed and genteel way of life. Not pushy and arrogant, and people say hello and not just give you a blank stare.

Not , really. In the North working class people and Rich people seem to intermingle more, but in the South its not the same. The North favors "self made" men, who make money from industry and enterprise, while the South is most strictly "old money" and the same family runs the same town for years on end, pretty much since the plantation days. Hasn't really changed.
