Cooking Question...Need Ideas/Help

I'm looking for paper that you can cook with. I don't want to eat the paper, but it will come into contact with food, so I want to make sure it isn't treated with any toxic chemicals that could leach off.

I also need the paper to be water absorbent...not necessarily like a sponge, but a drop of water should wet it (seep into the paper) instead of beading up on the surface.

Does anybody know if the paper used to roll cigarettes/joints is hydrophilic? I assume it is non-toxic, since you put it in your mouth. Can this paper be purchased legally (and are there any stores around NoVA that sell it)?

Any alternatives?

Thanks.

What about parchment paper? It's used in cooking.

If you just want to know where to buy zig zags, go to any drug store.

But if you really want it for cooking, try Williams Sonoma, Bed Bath and Beyond or Whole Foods (maybe even Giant.)

Can you give us a better idea of what kind of dish you are preparing? Parchment sounds like your best best but I'm a little confused on the requirement that it be absorbent.

Thanks, guys/gals. I just ordered up some parchment (no silicone). I am going to try to use it for a variation of what Ferran Adria does with alginate hydrogels. Solution of CaCl2 + solution of alginate ----> solid gel.
