Panasonic-Windows Vista Basic-Movie Maker

I don't expect anyone to know this at ffxu but I will still try. I have a panasonic digital recorder and I am trying to import tapes of my games onto my PC and then edit them with the parts that show me at my best. I tried microsoft movie maker and then downloaded an upgrade movie maker 2.6 but aparently Panasonic digital recorders aren't compatible with them. I was wondering if anyone knows of any other software that would allow me to do this. Please help, I've been at this all night.

What format are the clips after you get them on your PC? (.avi, .wmv, .mp4, etc)

use the panasonic to convert to format movie maker can use. AVI will work.
