Good for you dude. Cats aren't sycophants the way dogs are. Inferior sorts hate cats because they don't suck up to just anybody.

My oldest two cats, both indoor critters, lived to 18 and 20. Check out Orijen dry food. Take a walk through Pro Feed in Vienna or Alexandria. Compare the ingredients to supermarket cat food. Cats are carnivores. Mass produced food is full of grain.
To the extent you can afford to feed your cat quality food.

Some breeds are very docile, while others are more independent. You should probably get a Siamese. My neighbor has a Siamese. She always comes up and wants to be petted and held. They are very talky as well.
