Why does 1-66 always have the worst traffic?

I was just wonderin' because it seems like its always bumper to bumper no matter what time of day. Why dont people use another route? Is that the main way for commuters?

Because it is inadequate to meet the volume of traffic through the region. It is made worse by the HOV restrictions between the beltway and DC. You create a huge bottleneck on 66 because of it.

With the exception of my use of a hybrid on HOV, I have found I-66 to be one of the least efficient commuter routes.

There aren't too many ways to get from DC to the western, outside the beltway burbs besides 66 and 50. Simple as that.

MEADE is just scoping out the best roads and highways to don his Statue of Liberty costume and expose the most people to his commercial pitch at once. Look for him at the 66 east Bottlenecck near arlington or fairfax city exits early in the morning on Monday.
