Did Romney use the word only when referring to the route to the sea?

He was obviously referring to the Mediterranean Sea, which is a pretty important body of water in the region. Syria has opened it's ports to Iranian ships military and commercial.

Why is Kalingrad important to Russia?

It's like Sherman was stupid because he thought he could march to the sea without going through Georgia. DUH, it's a pathway to the sea. Fuckoff, die and do us the favor of pissing on your grave.

No. He didn't. But it is the 5th time he's made the exact same statement.

In March, Romney made the exact gaffe at AIPAC conference.

"Maybe one of the few bright spots in the Middle East developments in the last year has been the rising of the people in Syria against Assad. Obviously, as you know, Syria is Iran's only Arab ally in the region. Syria is the route that allows Iran to supply Hezbollah with weapons in Lebanon. Syria is Iran's route to the sea,"

in a CNN presidential primary debate in Arizona in February. "Syria is their key ally. It's their only ally in the Arab world. It is also their route to the sea,"

He was obviously referring to the Mediterranean. Nobody doubts that. The problem is, Syria is not their route to the sea, and that is what he said.

Not sure. Maybe they like the view?

You all just don't understand the evangelical mindset. He was talking about the Sea of Galilee silly.

Where does Syria touch Iran?

I heard all the major trading companies want to set up operation in the Caspian Sea. After all, it is completely land locked. Talk about failing geography.....

Iran having access to Syrian ports gives them a foothold in the Mediterranean, which is promixity to not only Lebanon and Gaza for nefarious purposes, but for trade with European nations.

You liberals are such petty faggots thinking you are onto something here, especially after Joe Biden stated in his debate that Syria is 5x geographically larger than Libya.

Yes because ships need to stop in port to re-coal because they can't make it all the way to Europe.

Wingnut you have been trying to spin this five ways to Sunday but you can't make it work. There is no logic to Romney's statement. Iran isn't a naval power. It barely has motorboats that can threaten shipping in the Persian Gulf.

Syria is a geopolitical partner, but its relation to the Mediterranean Sea is not what Iran finds of value.

Now, if Romney were making the argument that Russia finds its relationship with Syria advantageous because of its naval base in Tartus, Syria -- then you might have an argument. Perhaps this is what was muddled in Romney's mind.

Because we're all trying to get our navies back to the level of pre-world war one, I guess.

But the assertion about Iran needing access to Europe for trade is even sillier. The European Union is a member of the sanctions regime against Iran.

You're still a partisan idiot Ito. The quickest route for Iran is through the Suez Canal, which the US provides lots of $$$$ and support to Egypt for. Before Mubarak fell, Egypt wouldn't let Iran send ships through the canal unless they were boarded and searched. And Iran needs ports on the Mediterranean, not to refuel, but rather to unload weapons and terrorists to infiltrate Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan and as a launch point to filter out to the rest of the world. Educate yourself sheeple baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
