Hey!
I'm thinking about relocating to Manassas...Can anyone tell me about the town? Anything cool to do?

No. Not really. If you have a family, it is okay. But if you are single, you will be bored out of your mind.

On the plus side, it is mighty affordable these days.

Theresa,
I bought my home in Manassas about a year and a half ago. I moved from Reston. Although I enjoy Reston immensly, I must say that I really enjoy Manassas. There are certainly some neighborhoods to which I would advise not moving, but as a whole it is a great place to live. The recent abundance of foreclosures has brought the property values of all homeowners in the area down, but it is a great time to buy here. You can purchase these homes for a fraction of their price a year ago.
As far as things to do, it is a DC suburb. You will find more things to do closer to the city, but it does have a vibrant nightlife in Old Town Manassas. While exploring Old Town, check out all the stately homes that in the immediate area. They put a lot of the homes in the greater DC area to shame.
Manassas is a great place with its own share of problems. The city is actively correcting some of these problems and crime is on the decline, thanks to a professional police force
Good luck in your decision-making process.

Manassas Resident-

Steve, "vibrant nightlife?" Really?

Yes, there are good restaurants in Old Town (Foundation, Okra's, Carmello's, O'Meara's), but I would hardly call it "Night Life."

I agree for the most part, though. It is a family friendly community. Despite Georgetown South, the surrounding neighborhoods are quiet and safe. And the VRE makes it convenient to get to DC. However, if Theresa is single and looking for a place with a dating scene, Manassas ain't it.

What r u talking about? I would recommend Goergetown South to anyone looking for a nice quiet place to raise a family. Police patrol the area often and it is just as safe as another place in Manassas (i.e. Coverstone). If you don't mind the ppl standing on the corner until two in the a.m. yelling (and slinging crack), then this is the place for you.

That is hysterical, yet true. I have never been to that area at night, but based upon what I have seen during daylight, the issue of Georgetown South certainly needs to seriously addressed by the Manassas City Council. This area is an embarrassment to those who would like Manassas to be more dignified.

Like I said in my other post, most of the foreclosures in Manassas are in Georgetown South. The city doesn't have the resources, but this would be the ideal time to work with a bank to package all of those properties into one bundle and sell them to a developer and then to tear the place down and build SFHs or multi-use. It is walking distance to the VRE, so it would be a great place to build something new.
