Leesburg Town Council member Katie Hammler was elected on Oct. 5 to the Virginia Municipal League as their Town Sector Chair.

At their annual conference in Henrico County, Va. towns throughout the commonwealth elected Hammler as the Town Section Chair of the Virginia Municipal League’s Legislative Committee.

“I am sincerely honored that the Town voting members elected me to represent their interests on VML’s Executive Committee,” Hammler said in a statement. “I would particularly like to thank Lovettsville Mayor Elaine Walker, Vienna Mayor Jane Seeman, and Purcellville Mayor Bob Lazaro for their support. This is a tremendous opportunity to help formulate General Assembly legislative priorities to achieve the positive change our citizens expect of us as their local elected leaders.”

The Virginia Municipal League is a statewide, non-profit, non-partisan association of cities, towns and county governments that was established in 1905. The purpose of the league is to improve and assist local governments through legislative advocacy, research, education and other services. Membership of the league includes 39 cities, 159 towns and ten counties within the commonwealth.

“Katie has worked tirelessly with her VML colleagues on multiple issues and her hard work has been recognized,” Leesburg Mayor Kristen Umstattd said in a statement. “She deserves tremendous credit and we, on council, are all very proud of her.”
