For 10 years, area residents have taken a leisurely stroll on a summer’s evening over Veterans Bridge in Central Springfield. It happened again Tuesday evening, Aug. 30, as members of the community and public officials joined representatives of the U.S. Army for the Springfield BridgeWalk.

This year’s event, as in recent years, ended with a rededication ceremony between local officials and members of the U.S. Army stationed at nearby Fort Belvoir. Led by Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova (D-At-Large), elected officials and Col. John Strycula, Garrison Commander of Fort Belvoir, signed the Army Community Covenant, which reaffirms local support for the military stationed in the community.
