The Washington Post article on Simpson was a case of bad reporting and circumstance—at best! The report appeared to be done by a new college grad lacking investigative prowess—certainly on the fact-checking end. The writer was not effective in drawing clear and level connections. First, anyone knows that county contracts are awarded by the Contracts Administration office using their protocols—not the Sheriff him/herself. Yet, there was no mention of or comment from the contracts administrator in the article. Second, any time a political candidate accepts a donation from anyone or organization, they are to supposedly know that the funds came from illegitimate means? Linda Tribby commented to the judge at her trial that she was a good citizen because she supported the community (financially, from funds she stole). In the end the Sheriff did the right thing in redistributing it to charity, but when the check shows up, any political candidate deposits it—look at Obama!
Lastly, the party-driven politics at the County level are out of control. It would behoove everyone to dump political parties and go independent (decide on the candidate based on their own merits and community ties)—especially for constitutional offices!
