Skunk goes to store: Columbia Pl., Sterling, Aug. 27. A skunk was reported to be living under a pallet by a store entrance. An animal control officer removed the healthy skunk and returned it to the wild.
Bat in the house: Chetwood Terr., Ashburn, Aug. 27. A bat was reported to have gotten inside a home. An animal control officer captured the bat and confirmed that no people or pets had been exposed to it. The bat did not have to be tested for rabies.
Stray dog impounded: Longstreet Ave., Round Hill, Aug. 28. An animal control officer responded to a report of a stray dog running loose. The officer impounded the approximately 5-year-old male dog, which did not have identification or a microchip. Lost-dog reports were checked; no match was found.
Living conditions investigated: Freda Lane, Chantilly, Aug. 29. Six dogs were reported to be living in poor conditions. An animal control officer met with the owner, who said that he now had only one dog, which has access to the owner’s garage and back yard. The dog appeared to be healthy and in good physical condition. No violations regarding the dog’s care were found.
Fox eludes capture: Misty Meadow Ct., Ashburn, Aug. 30. An animal control officer responded to a report of a fox with an injured hind leg. When the officer approached the animal, the fox ran away and could not be found.
