Leesburg police officers are investigating what may be a series of burglaries overnight in downtown Leesburg.

Police were called at 7:35 a.m. for a report that a front window at the Cooely Gallery on South King Street was broken out. A glass front door at King Street Coffee a few blocks away also was broken.

Investigators are working to determine if the incidents are related.

Around 10:45 a.m. Leesburg Police revealed that a third business in the downtown area, the Rouge Boutique had a window in the front door broken overnight. The boutique is located at at 17 South King Street, and as the investigation continues, detectives will work to determine whether that incident is related to the burglaries at 12 South King Street.

Visitors to the county courthouse this morning were met by a crime scene on the front lawn. According to some authorities on the scene, the suspect allegedly dumped some of the stolen property on the courthouse grounds after the robberies, and detectives were on scene securing and reviewing the evidence. No further details about what was stolen has been released.

Anyone with information about the incidents is urged to call the Leesburg Police Department at 703-771-4500. Those wishing to remain anonymous may call the Leesburg Police Crime Line at 703-443-TIPS. (703-443-8477).

What ever happened to the alerts that the Loudoun County Sheriff's Department issued in the past when crimewaves like this happened?
