The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Leesburg Police Department are advising residents of potential travel delays in the area of White’s Ferry Road, Route 15 and the Town of Leesburg on Aug. 11 around 5 p.m.

Members of the United States Marine Corps, as part of the Always Brothers non-profit organization, will be honoring a fallen Marine by running from Thurmont, Md. to Arlington National Cemetery, going through Leesburg.

The runners and three support vehicles will travel across White’s Ferry into Virginia at approximately 5:00 p.m. Once the runners make it to the Virginia side, they will continue down Whites Ferry Road, and turn left (southbound) onto Route 15. Using the shoulder area, they will continue southbound on Route 15 and then continue onto Route 15/Business into Leesburg. The runners will then turn onto Battlefield Parkway to Plaza Street (NE) and follow Plaza Street to the Washington & Old Dominion trail.

They will continue their run out of the county using the W & OD trail. Residents should expect delays on Route 15, Battlefield Parkway and Plaza Street.

Route 15 Southbound Closed Afternoon of Friday, August 19, 2011

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is notifying motorists who travel James Monroe Highway (Route 15) that the southbound lane of the roadway will be closed during the afternoon of Friday, August 19, 2011, for the America’s 9/11 Foundation, Inc. commemorative motorcycle ride.

The riders are expected to enter Loudoun County from Maryland at 2:00 p.m. with the final riders estimated to enter the county between 3:30 and 4:00 p.m.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office and the Virginia State Police will be stopping traffic at the intersections on Route 15 from the Maryland line to the Leesburg town line. Traffic from roads on the east side of Route 15 will be able to travel north. All traffic wishing to go south must find an alternate route or experience major delays.

A suggested detour route from northbound Route 15 would be to take Route 15 north into Maryland, to Route 340 west toward Brunswick to Route 17 south through Brunswick to Route 287 into Loudoun County. All traffic coming from roads on the west side of Route 15 should find an alternate route or expect major delays.

Members of the Town of Leesburg Police Department are also advising residents to expect significant traffic delays in and around the town. The ride will come south on Route 15/Business (King Street) into Leesburg, continuing southbound through the Historic Downtown. Riders will then take the Route 7/15 Bypass east to the Dulles Greenway, where riders will enter the Dulles Greenway. Access to the Dulles Greenway from the Bypass will be closed. For more information regarding the procession route through the Town of Leesburg please visit this special information page on the Town of Leesburg's website.

The event is anticipated to have its largest turnout ever with over 1,800 motorcyclists expected to participate. The annual remembrance ride honors all who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 attacks, aftermath and recovery. The ride travels from Somerset, Pennsylvania to the Pentagon, then to the site of the World Trade Center over a four-day period of time.
