Two Warrenton women were charged July 13 in the connection with a series of package thefts in Ashburn that happened in late June.
Delia R. Rafe, 33, and Darlene L. Darden, 33, were both charged with felony grand larceny for the June 29, 2011 theft of a package delivered to a residence on the 20500 block of Broadnax Place in the Ashburn Village Community.
The case was investigated by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Property Crimes Unit along with the assistance of members of the community who alerted authorities of suspicious people in their neighborhood.
The two women also remain suspects of several other reported package thefts in Ashburn Village during the month of June.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the community to report suspicious people or activity immediately. They also suggest requesting specific drop off times for packages, asking for packages to be placed on the back porch or beside the front porch so it couldn’t be as visible to the road, pick up packages at the store location and talk to your neighbors if you are expecting a package and have them keep an eye on the item delivered. Residents should also be aware if they are expecting packages and know what the estimate date of delivery is, and if they don’t receive it alert the sender.
Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office also wants to remind residents that if their mail appears to be unsorted it may be an indication that someone has been through their mailbox.
Residents can report any suspicious activity to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office at 703-777-1021.
