Two Loudoun high school graduates are already seeing a benefit in pursuing law enforcement.
On July 5 the grads, Joseph Seigel of Purcellville and Loudoun Valley High School and Daniel O’Connell of Leesburg and Loudoun County High School, each received a $500 check from Loudoun Sheriff Steve Simpson.
The checks were given as part of the Virginia Sheriff’s Institute, or VSI, scholarship program.
The program was establish by VSI’s Board of Directors and provides an opportunity for young people across the commonwealth to pursue education in criminal justice.
Seigel will be attending Randolph-Macon University in the fall, while O’Connell will attend Radford University.
The VSI was founded in 1981 and is funded through Virginia citizens. The Institute is involved in a wide array of training and educational activities and is not politically affiliated.
