Thu., Jun. 2 | 08:53 AM - A fourth grade teacher at Creighton's Corner Elementary School in Ashburn was charged with drunk in public during the school day June 1.
A Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer was called to the school shortly before 1 p.m. after school personnel reported a teacher was believed to be under the influence of alcohol, said Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kraig Troxell.
Police said that Laura Ann Collins, 43, of Leesburg, was under the influence of alcohol and charged her with drunk in public.
“There are indications that she consumed alcohol during school hours,” Troxell said when asked whether police believe Collins showed up to work under the influence or drank after arriving at work. He would not go into details on where the alcohol consumption is believed to have taken place.
According to Loudoun County Public Schools spokesman Wayde Byard, Collins was participating in a training at the school at the time.
“She was not interacting with students yesterday, so there was not an issue of student safety here,” Byard said.
Collins has been placed on paid administrative leave by Loudoun County Public Schools.
