The number of contested races within the Republican Party continues to grow, with the addition of Brambleton's Jo-Ann Chase to the 87th House District race.

Shortly after David Ramadan announced he was entering the 87th District race against Democrat Mike Kondratick, Chase filed her papers to run for the Republican nomination. The 87th District is one of Loudoun's new House of Delegates seats, and it stretches from north of Rt. 7 in Cascades south to the Haymarket area. The redistricting process moved Del. Bob Marshall (R-13) out of Loudoun, and most of the area of the county represented by Marshall will now be included in the 87th District.

Chase is a self-proclaimed Tea Party activist, who is focused on limiting government and cutting taxes for Virginians. She currently serves as the State Central Committee member for the 10th District of the Republican Party.

Originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, Chase has long been a volunteer for conservative Republican causes and activities and said she wants to bring that type of activism to Richmond. A close associate of Marshall's, Chase said she was asked to run by the long-time delegate. Marshall gave the opening remarks at Chase's kick-off May 18.

While she has been active since last month, Chase officially announced her candidacy to her fellow Republicans at the Loudoun County Republican Committee meeting Tuesday night.

More information about Chase and her campaign can be found on her Facebook page, Jo-Ann Chase for Virginia Delegate 87th District. Her website is under construction and should be up and running shortly. When it is live, residents can find information at www.jo-annchase.com.
