Loudoun County law enforcement agencies collected over 252 pounds of prescriptions drugs over the weekend during their second “Take-Back” initiative.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and Leesburg and Purcellville’s police departments partnered with the Drug Enforcement Administration and joined a nationwide effort of more than 5,300 sites on April 30 to collect unwanted or unused prescription drugs.
Loudoun residents dropped off unused prescription medications at four sites throughout the county.
The initiative addressed the public safety and health issues of misuse or abuse of prescription drugs in households.
In September 2010, three agencies in Loudoun collected over 180 pounds of unwanted and unused prescription drugs during their first “Take-Back” initiative.
Other participants in this year’s initiative included the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, The American Association of Poison Control Centers, the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of American and many more.
