Ashburn HOAs

Moving to Ashburn in May. We heard the HOAs each have a different "feel."

Can anyone comment on ...

Ashburn Village

Ashburn Farm

Broadlands

Brambleton

Just don't paint your house pink, make sure your car's inspection and plates are current, and don't pave your yard.

Thanks. We are moving from Fairfax County, so ... what about paving just the back yard? (kidding)

I've lived in a SFH in Ashburn Village for 17 years now. The fee's are reasonable IMO...especially if your family uses the Sports Pavilion which is a solid facility for the price we pay ($119 per month for SFH). Fee's have remained pretty steady over that time (I think I started in '98 paying $96 a month).

There have been a few head-scratching decisions from a community landscaping perspective over the last decade (a lot of removal of mature tree's, etc...especially around the lakes areas) but the current board is making some solid strides in re-beautifying the Village common areas.

Like all HOA's...follow the rules and you'll never hear from them.

Ashburn Village - You can have a busted fence and knocked over front lamppost lying on the ground for literally years without so much as a letter from the HOA. Just make sure you don't have a wreath on your door in February.

Ashburn HOA are a joke. If you're white and have money they are all over you for every little thing cause you can pay the fine, oh I mean "assessment". They completely ignore the blacks and mexicans. Especially the Mexican s, they are afraid of them. They know they are illegals and do whatever they want then run away. Can't pay the fines anyway. I'm now free, no HOA.

If you happen to have a house-full of illegal immigrants next door, just be aware that when they add extra renters to fill up their house (15-25 is not unheard of back when I lived there), when their myriad cars fill up all the available guest spaces on your community street, when they picnic and set off live fireworks on holidays using your lawn as a party property/trash can, let their myriads of kids kick balls into your house from your lawn area, tear up your yard and flower beds using it as a playground for their anchor babies, and toss their trash all over your lawn or parking spaces, there will be no interference from the HOA unless you fill out a complaint form on-line. It will need to be done over and over again for each time you find them trashing your property. And if they are running an underground off the record
cash only day 24 hour day care center from their house, with the attendant crashes, booms and bangs of karate and soccer balls banging and booming away through your walls, well, here's hoping you don't work at night and don't have to sleep or study or work from home in the afternoons, as there does not seem to be any HOA rule rules against inside noise that only you can hear 24 hours a day. If you do a police complaint, they will just shunt that onto the HOA to handle. The Ashburn Village HOA would be better if they actually walked around every week and actually fined the bad perpetrators each time and every they find something, but they make their rounds once a year in the spring on any one street area, so you are stuck if you end up in a house with crap neighbors unless you keep on filing complaints.

Good to know what areas are converting to illegal boarding houses. That will wreck a neighborhood fast.

One Loudoun is a nice place to live EXCEPT after a blizzard. Although our Blizzard of 2016 started on Friday and lasted through late Saturday night, it is now Tuesday and on the streets of the residences (townhouses) not one street has yet seen a plow. A tiny little sno-cat made a few passes over the road areas without lowering the plow, the result being only to compact the 30 " of road snow, squashing it down to 6 inches of solid ice. There is no place for it to push or plow the snow if it tried--reason only a dump truck and tall frontloader will work. No sanding, gravel or melting stuff has been applied, not a whiff nor sight of a desperately needed large-sized front loader and dump truck in the townhouse areas to date for actual removal. Just the little sno-cat ADMIRABLY trying its best to try to move tons of snow where there is noauthorized place to put it, though there are nearby empty lots and fields they could easily use if someone were actually in charge that could give them guidance, and if we had a regular plow, truck and front-loader made available to do the work.

I wonder where all the money the HOA charges residents for snow removal services has disappeared to--maybe back to Japan to pay off their national debt?

It is not like they didn't know this was coming, and they could easily have reserved a front-loader and dump truck when the weathermen started warning about this storm a week ago. DUHHHHHHHHHH........?

That's why you need to live in a million $$$ home. Keeps out the riff-raff.
Sorry to say, it's coming down to just that. Isn't multiculturalism awesome!!!

Sterling park here and the hoa keeps on me because I keep paying the fines. I keep complaining about the spics that have a washer and dyer in the front yard for 3 months and nothing happens.

I hope all hoa's go bankrupt and the greasers get deported by trump.

Fight back!!! Find a stand of bamboo along the roadsides--it is often used for erosion control. Or, go to a nursery and order several plants of the spreading types--you have to ask for the spreading (running) type because it takes over a field in no time.
http://www.hgtvgardens.com/garden-basics/nursery-school-avoid-bamboo-like-the-plague

cut a bunch of canes into lengths that includes a couple of nodes, and while walking the dog around the neighborhood late at night, as you walk by the garbage year, (best to do after a rain with soaked ground in the spring) push the lengths into the ground along the edges of their property.

By the time the stiff starts sending up visible shoots, there will be a nice huge root network everywhere underground. Not only will it hide the trash in the yard, it will eventually cover the entire property from view from the road! Then the HOA will have to get involved, because their neighbors will begin to complain as this blessed plant sdtages its quiet invasion throughout the community!!!

Maybe they are using an incompetant cheap crap contractor. K & B Landscape Services has the contract. When they do show up, if they show up, they do not have the needed heavy duty equipment, so they stand around, take lots of breaks, and collect a paycheck, except for the guy operating the snowblower and the bobcat. At least those worked hard at what little they could accomplish.
When residents complained when they could not get their cars out, there was a flurry of activity for a few minutes, then the pickup with the plow drove around and opened up a 5 foot wide swath in the middle of the streets, but did not touch the car-free, snow filled right/left side parking lanes to either side or the mountains of resident shoveled snow, even after residents got their cars out of the way by Wednesday. The 5 foot wide drive swath still had a base of 6 inches of squashed frozen slush on an ice base, because the plows for some reason would not put down their plows all the way -- large SUVs were getting trapped trying to drive out of the neighborhood, so the Bobcat would come and pull them out. There are no parking lanes/spaces ploughed out along the roads unless the residents went out and shoveled one out. Even after the cars have been removed from along side of the residences, the contractors wouldn't plow or take out the snow. Their excuse is that they don't have equipment. Well, all it takes is a call to a rental place for a dump truck and a front loader--they have the pickup truck variety plow truck but won't use it.

Neighborhood chat has it that the One Loudoun Manager had his own street ploughed out very early after the storm--but then, he did nothing to get the rest of the neighborhood cleared, (acting as if it never existed, or was he simply clueless that any universe exists outside of the confines of his own dwelling)?

Any body know of a decent snow removal company that is competent enough to have both an honest work ethic and the proper equipment on hand for the times they will need it? It's time for ONE Loudoun to change contractors or refund all the overpriced high HOA fees they are stealing from the residents! Alternatively, if the HOA management for this place is willing to ignore the needs of the residents yet gladly takes an out-of-the-solar-system HOA fee, maybe the HOA management needs to be replaced along with the incompetent snow removal company for the good of ALL of the residents.
