Burke Water

Odd things happen with my water - specifically with the water in my toilets. It's a constant battle to keep a fine layer of plant-like growth from coating the bowl. It's usually a reddish brown. Occasionally black/green plants come out of the holes in the bottom. After cleaning, the red/brown film is back.

Anyone else having similar issues? I grew up in Fairfax, lived in Falls Church, Arlington, Alexandria and Burke and this is the only place I've had it happen.

I'm in Burke Commons townhouses.

Never had a problem like that and I've lived throughout Burke and West Springfield and Fairfax.

Sounds like you may have a mold issue though.

That area is service by Fairfax County Water Authority. Go on their website (fairfaxwater.org). Click on FAQ's, scroll down to Water Quality, and you will find that what you have is common and has nothing to do with the water but the bacteria in the air.

Bacteria in the air?? How dumb do you think we are? Why doesn't bottled water have this problem?

I don't know about the rest of "we" but YOU are dumb as a dip-stick, and I wouldn't trust you to measure dirty oil.
Bottled water only interacts with air when you're pouring it down your gullet. The toilet water and rings in the sink you see are a result of water that's been exposed to air for days at a time!
