Just wondering if you all have thoughts about living in Springfield; I am thinking of purchasing a house there (I currently live in Fairfax). Any thoughts would be helpful, i.e. good things vs. bad things about Springfield. Ok, thanks. I have done searches for specific streets on the "Arrest/Ticket Search", but would still like to hear from people who actually live there.

Go by the top 10 schools in Fairfax County. There are several schools in the Springfield area. Lake Braddock and West Sprinfield are good.

If you google the top schools in the US. US News has an annual report of the top 1400 schools in the US.

Well, I don't have kids, but good to know when that time rolls around.....i've read a bunch of horrible crap regarding the "Thugfield" Mall....thugs, illegals, etc. Anything else?

22152 and 22153 are West Springfield which does not necessarily mean WSHS. If you want a home in WSHS district, roughly easternmost street is Greeley and OKM, most southern is FFXCO Pkwy, westernmost Orange Hunt neighborhood, and northern would be Cardinal Forest.

Thanks for the info, but I'm trying to live within a 2 mile walk to the Franconia/Springfield Metro. The area seems nice....lot of new construction and shops/restaraunts. The zip code I'm looking at is mainly 22150...suppose it's East Springfield??

WEll, hopefully I will find a house in Springfield within the next few months. It's gotta be better than fairfax....in terms of the pretentious people...and gonna live within walking distance to the metro so i can go to dc anytime i want.

Go careful in the area immediately adjacent to the metro -- it really isn't particularly good. We almost bought a house there and we're glad we didn't. You have to be very much location-specific in Springfield. As spartan said, go a little ways up the parkway to 22152/22153 (Cardinal Forest, Rolling Forest, Daventry, etc). Very good neighborhoods and only a few mins drive/cycle to metro. Of course, you'll pay a little extra but there are some great bargains available at the mo.

Daventry neighborhood is really pretty BUT it is in the Lee High School boundary instead of West Springfield. People move out when their kids approach 9th grade.
