ARLINGTON, Va. - (WUSA) - Arlington Police say that the suspect involved in a police shooting on Interstate-395 Tuesday night, also is suspected of having shot and killed his wife, sometime prior to shooting the police officer.

Police say the suspected gunman's wife was found dead in their apartment at the Dorchester Towers building on Columbia Pike in Arlington, sometime after an Alexandria police officer was shot last night during a traffic stop.

The police shooting happened around 8:00 P.M. Tuesday on northbound Interstate 395 at Glebe Road in Arlington County.

Arlington police identified the suspected gunman as Robert K. Hui, 22. Investigators responded to the suspect's residence in the 2000 block of Columbia Pike, and found his wife deceased inside. Sarah Tredop, 19, was found suffering from gunshot wounds. The investigation is ongoing.

Alexandria Police Chief David Baker told 9 NEWS NOW that the injured officer, whom he identified as Kyle Russel, a 3 year veteran of the department, had just pulled onto 395 from Glebe Road, when he spotted Hui's Lexus sport utility vehicle being driven erratically.

Chief Baker says Officer Russel, who was training a rookie officer at the time, initiated a traffic stop, and only had time to ask the driver "Are you all right?" before he was struck in the chest by a bullet fired from the SUV.

Arlington Police spokeswoman Detective Crystal Nosal says the suspect fled in his vehicle, which was found shortly afterward by officers on the left shoulder of I-395, prior to the Boundary Channel exit. Police set up a perimeter around the vehicle. When it was discovered that the driver was still in the car officers made a tactical approach. The suspect was found deceased inside the car, from what appeared to be a self inflicted gunshot wound.

Nosal says the Alexandria police officer suffered "deep tissue wounds." The injured officer was being treated at Inova Fairfax Hospital. The officer is expected to make a full recovery. Police say his ballistic vest stopped the bullet from causing any life threatening injuries.
