FCPS going to rip apart Gender

For those who do not know, FCPS in 2016 will add as part of their Health (and thus mandatory) curriculum "Gender Fluid" lessons:

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2015/05/15/call-it-gender-fluidity-schools-to-teach-kids-there-s-no-such-thing-as-boys-or-girls.html

Rise up against this! In all of humanity's history never has a nation ever, ever questioned or taught its children that there's no such thing as gender.

Parents and residents of Fairfax County: DEMAND that the school produce un-assailable, concrete, and irrefutable science and medical based evidence for this curriculum. Course lessions are SUPPOSED to be based on fact; which the school system has NOT produced to justify this "gender fluid" curriculum.

Pull your children or sue the school to stop this. These are impressionable childen to whom this will be taught.

Spread the word; be vocal. Openly and publicly DEMAND that FCPS produce evidence for these lessons; evidence that is conclusive.

For nothing less should be used when it comes to child's identity.

UNITE AND FIGHT!

Interesting post. However, you're getting the concepts of sex and gender confused.

Sex is based on biological, reproductive functions. In mammals (including humans), sex can typically be divided into two functional categories: male and female.

Gender is a set of social and cultural ideals for how sex should be displayed. It varies from culture to culture, and changes over time.

Examples of gender in our culture include: what colors boys vs girls are supposed to like; what jobs men or women should have; what recreational activities men or women should like; what roles men or women should play in a family; what physical appearance men and women should have (i.e., clothing, jewelry, makeup, hair, physical prowess).

Over time and across cultures, these definitions have changed. One funny example of this in America is that in the early 1900s pink was the color associated with boys, and blue was associated with girls. At the time, people felt blue was a calm and serene color, and that calmness and serenity should be traits associated with females. They felt that pink, being a derivative of red, was evocative of strength and aggression -traits they felt should be associated with males. Nowadays, we have the gender associations with pink and blue completely reversed!

More impactful changes to definitions of gender in out culture include the roles that men and women are allowed to play in society. Our gender roles are loosening up a bit, and we have seen numerous benefits to our society. It is more acceptable for women to show assertiveness, get recognition for their scientific/technological achievements, and hold professions which were not open to them 50 years ago. It is more acceptable for men to express themselves emotionally, to be nurturing human beings, and to be dedicated fathers who are involved in their house holds, without having their masculinity questioned.

Most human beings cannot fit neatly into little pre-defined "boxes". We are all slightly different, with varying interests and talents. Loosening definitions of gender and gender roles are beneficial to us all. When we're not all pre-occupied with worrying about whether we look masculine or feminine to others, we can actually become productive members of society. When we're not busy fussing over whether we fit into shallow, arbitrary, limited ideals, we have the time and energy to hone our talents and accomplish wonderful things that better humanity.
