400 Independent Economists Sign in Support of Romney Plan
Posted by: Nobel laureates ()
Date: August 18, 2012 01:29AM

400 independent economists signed a statement at the website Economists for Romney in support of what they call the Republican presidential candidate's "bold economic plan for America."

Five Nobel laureates (Gary Becker, Robert Lucas, Robert Mundell, Edward Prescott, and Myron Scholes) signed the statement which, in part, reads, “We enthusiastically endorse Governor Mitt Romney’s economic plan to create jobs and restore economic growth while returning America to its tradition of economic freedom.”

The economists also denounced Obama's economic ideas, claiming they led to an "an anemic economic recovery and high unemployment." They further assert, "his future plans are to double down on the failed policies, which will only prolong slow growth and high unemployment."

Bout time. You dont have to be an economist to see that all hes done is hinder the recovery at every turn. Every time he gives an economic speech the dow drops a few hundred points. I wish I knew his plans so I could sell the day before he talks about the economy

A list of 400 mostly obscure and irrelevant hacks or clearly biased GOP hucksters.
Since when is George Shultz an economist?
C'Mon - this stupidity makes my eyeballs itch.

The Romney/Ryan Plan is a fucking joke! It has no substance and it does not add up.

Is on welfare right? Its not like statistics show that democrats are a more highly employed and educated group than Republicans. Its not like it shows the states that receive the highest amounts of welfare and government support are in the deep south and bastions of republican social bullshit. Its not like democrats are engineers, doctors, scientists, innovators, or inventers... I mean who can compete against all those financial analysts and wall street traders in the GOP?

How did we get into this mess again... I forget what sector of the economy completely fucked over the american people... was it engineers... nooooo

I think it was doctors right? Fuckin doctors, how dare they heal people

Oh oh god damn inventors and innovators like Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, those are the assholes, how dare they create things that no one else in the world could think up and bring money into our country by actually creating things.

Fuck off douche

The best solution is to spin off Medicare and Social Security from the rest of government. They have their own funding sources and don't currently contribute to the deficits. The rest of the budget is a complete mess because they've been allowed to raid the entitlements to hide their mismanagement.

So a bunch of Republican economists sign on, nice. And I am sure a bunch of Democrat economists will say the same. What a surprise, and means nothing.

I think there are maybe six democrats total who are economists. Liberals are very bad with figuring out you cannot spend more than you take in.

"Currently"

Actually, they have the last couple years due to "temporary" stimulus.

And, yes, they have been raiding the entitlements to hide mismanagement, but it's not as if the entitlements themselves are sound. Just ask the Trustees...

Not to worry, once lenders stop being scared of everyone else, they'll stop rolling the debt at current rates. That's when the fun really begins...

Given that the vast majority of these folks appear to be relatively senior professors at universities, that kind of undercuts your entire argument. lol

And, no, they don't appear to be just a bunch of political hacks as someone implied above.

Ummm... A simple look at the concentration of welfare recipients will show that they tend to be in larger urban centers and which dwarf rural Southern areas simply given population density. And btw the "deep South" as you call it is traditionally Democrat-controlled particularly at local levels.

This is no longer true--and has not been true for about 20 years.

The Republicans control the congressional seats in almost all of the Southern states.

Jesus Henry Christ, Dems are dumb, but you, my friend take the crown for king of the dummies. Shultz was a professor of economics at MIT and U of Chicago before serving as a cabinet secretary. He received his Ph.D in economics from MIT.

Think before posting your idiotic drivel.

Unfortunately, your definition of "adding up" is $5 trillion in debt and 8+% unemployment. Idiot.

Yea I am 30, own my 2br condo outright without mortgage, and am a P.E. dick. And for reference my parents are still together 41 years now. But just another false stereotype, you know something you republicans are good at creating, atleast you yourselves are an accurate stereotype.

Yea liberals are idiots. They cant even figure out how to create a derivative of debt and sell it separately as an investment to hide the principals of the original debt and make it appear a safer investment.

Jeez, what a bunch of morons those liberals are. Economists and accountants rule! GO GOP !! CHENEY CHENEY CHENEY!!

Yea, I can't wait. Elect the GOP and they can get our county into another war that we shouldn't be in. Besides, the housing market is starting to recover so we need the GOP to drive the housing market back down the tubes. THANKS GOP.

I said traditionally. The ignorant stereotype expressed didn't develop AFTER the significant wins by Republicans in the 2010 mid-terms and in earlier more recent years.

The fact is that the more dependent areas of the South (i.e., largest numbers of recipients of welfare, food stamps, other similar assistance) remain those which are rural, poor, with a largely black population and largely Dem representation, and certainly not "bastions of republican social bullshit" as was stated.
