Fairfax County Fire and Rescue is trying to determine who set fire to a pile of clothes at Kohl's Department Store on Tuesday night.

Units responded to the store, at 2100 Centreville Rd., at about 6:20 p.m.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke throughout the store upon arrival.

Firefighters found the seat of the fire at a clothing rack in the women’s section of the store. Sprinklers had activated and extinguished the bulk of the fire. Firefighters checked for fire and extension and ventilated the store. The store was evacuated when smoke alarms sounded. There were no injuries.

Damage is undetermined.

Fire fire investigators said the fire was intentionally set. The investigation is ongoing.

A fire was intentionally started in a Kohl’s department store in the Herndon, Va., area on Tuesday, fire investigators said.

Fire and rescue units responded to the department store, located at 2100 Centreville Road, at about 6:20 p.m. on May 22 for a reported commercial structure fire.

Firefighters found heavy smoke throughout the store when they arrived. They found a clothing rack on fire in the women’s section of the store, authorities said.

Sprinklers had activated and put out the majority of the fire.

The store was evacuated when the smoke alarms went off and no injuries were reported.

Authorities say they believe the fire was intentionally set. The investigation continues.

It hasn't come out yet, but they probably found the lighter or device that started the fire there.
