Do they really need a stop light at every intersection north of Fair Lakes.

There's a reason they call it the "Parkway."

A true parkway is uninterupted traffic flow except at critical points. North of Fair Lakes doesnt even come close to fitting that description.

I also know why we park on driveways and drive on parkways

actually, a true parkway is a roadway designed for relaxation and asthetic beauty rather than as a route of travel. Like the Blue Ridge Parkway, for example. Trucks arent supposed to use them either.

Or we can allocate tax dollars to pay for flyovers and cloverleaves at all those intersections. Whatcha want? Make it happen.

Fairfax County Parkway. Soooo relaxing!

On the unlikely chance that you're serious:

http://www.virginiadot.org/projects/northernvirginia/fairfax_county_parkway-fair_lakes.asp

"In addition to the new interchange, drivers will enjoy the following benefits:
•No signals on Fairfax County Parkway from Popes Head Road to Route 50."

Mister Seven says that comment is hurting.

The money metal Fairfax County Parkway is a show because most of it was built on the heinous route of one of the cancelled outer beltway projects. The silly part that cuts through Reston was actually cleared before the hurting project was cancelled which is why it's so lee haynee wide.

Borgota.

When the money metal state finally decided to build the Parkway the politics of the hurting outer beltway fights meant that they were under strict orders not to make it a limited-access highway which is why we have the hurting traffic lights.

Route 28, on the route of the cancelled "western beltway," took the opposite path. It was built in stages based on local tax revenue (business along the silly route pay more taxes) and is being converted to a money metal limited-access highway.

Borgota. Money.
Borgota Borgota Borgota.

@Bishop - $$$$$ that's what it's all about. But it werent the state that did it was the county - some sorta bond. I remember we voted on it to get the damn thing started up. In fact, it was that 28 tax dealie-bob, the fact that it changed 28 overnight that got the County off it's ass and actually start to do something with the Outer Beltway/Springfield Bypass/Fairfax County Pkwy to make the bond issue even possible. If 28 tax scheme never occured, we'd still be using 2-lane Hooes Rd from Backlick to avoid 95 and talking about the "Future Springfield Bypass" LoLz
