Man shot in car in Mount Vernon dies

WASHINGTON - A man found shot in his car in the Mount Vernon area of Fairfax County has died.

Fairfax County Police say the shooting happened at the intersection of San Leandro Place and Mendocina Place around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A Fairfax County Police spokesperson tells WTOP police received a call for a noise complaint.

When police got to the scene, they found a man in his 40s suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body.

He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

There are no suspects at this time.

I use to live on San Leandro Pl. The street is in the Sequoia community. The street is actually across from Mt. Vernon Woods Elementary school. Sequoia was getting to be a dump in the '80's when I lived there so I can imagine what it is like now!!!!

Victim Identified


The victim of this homicide has been identified as Morgan Detroy Monroe Jr., 47 of Landover, Maryland. The vehicle he was found in is a black, 1996 Honda Accord, four-door.

When did Sequoia become Mount Vernon?
Never. I say you can change a name but the place is still the same.

Why would someone from Landover, Md come to Sequoia?
To buy drugs? I say no the drug are in P.G. Co.

To sell drugs? Maybe

Looking for someone who owed $ for drugs? could be.

Random shooting? not likely.

He just got out of prison last year for kidnapping, robbery, and murder charges. Served 26 years..revenge?..most likely..

Maybe he was really trying to turn his life around and he went to make an apology, but the receipient still hadn't quite forgive him. He was gunned down even though he was trying make things right.

...

I'm kidding of course, the world's a much better place without him.

I remember this kids story from years ago he went to jail for the above mention crime when he was a minor, his victim was a drug dealer that beat and raped his sister,and he tortured the guy, put him in a coma which he died from. My police buddies say he worked at the apartment complex for the towing service, he drives around in his car while the tow truck sweeps waits for him to call in for pick ups, they think he was murdered for towing someone car away. Ashame he tried to get his life on track.
