Weekend Wakeup Call – Friday, March 9 to Monday, March 12

First of all, remember to set your clocks 1 hour ahead before you go to bed Saturday night. Daylight Savings begins 2 a.m. Sunday — We’ll lose that precious hour of sleep, but the promise of springtime weather should be enough to make up for it, right?

Your pre-Daylight Savings weekend will also be host to Red Line station closures, the Home & Garden Show at the D.C. Convention Center, some Virginia racing events, and the National Capital Boat Show at the Dulles Expo Center. And don't forget the St. Patrick's 8-K Race and Parade on Sunday. Have a great weekend!

Beltway construction

If you’re planning on leaving work early Friday, expect delays on the Inner Loop of the Beltway between the Springfield Interchange and the Dulles Toll Road/267. There have been significant delays between these two points all week, due to a handful of work zones, each blocking a single lane. Those work crews will be working between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

South Dakota Avenue NE construction

Starting around 7 a.m. Friday, southbound South Dakota Avenue Northeast is scheduled to be closed between Riggs Road and Kennedy Street for 48 hours. The northbound side will have one lane open. Crews are making preparations for a permanent closure of the Riggs Road ramp to South Dakota Ave.

Metro track work

The Woodley Park and Cleveland Park stations will be closed on the Red Line, with single tracking scheduled for the Orange, Blue, and Yellow Lines. Here are the details from Metro:

Red Line

Beginning 10 p.m. Friday and continuing through system closing on Sunday, free shuttle buses will replace Red Line trains between Dupont Circle and Van Ness to allow for rail, fastener and insulator renewal, leak repairs, drain cleaning and fiber optic cable installation.
Two stations – Woodley Park and Cleveland Park – will be closed.
Throughout the weekend, Red Line trains will operate in two sections: between Shady Grove and Van Ness and between Dupont Circle and Glenmont. Trains will operate every 10 minutes during daytime hours and at regular weekend intervals at other times.
Customers using shuttle bus service should allow 20 minutes of additional travel time.
On Friday night, the last trains to operate through the area before work begins will be the 9:28 p.m. departure from Shady Grove (arriving at Van Ness at 9:52 p.m.) and the 9:20 p.m. departure from Glenmont.
The last train from Shady Grove will depart 30 minutes earlier than normal, at 2:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights and at 11 p.m. on Sunday night.
Orange Line

Beginning 10 p.m. Friday and continuing through system closing on Sunday, Orange Line trains will single track between Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory to allow for rail fastener renewal, tile replacement and station rehabilitation work, and between East Falls Church and West Falls Church for testing associated with the Dulles rail project.
Throughout the weekend, Orange Line trains will depart Vienna and New Carrollton every 24 minutes.
Customers should allow 15-20 minutes of additional travel time.
Blue Line

Beginning 10 p.m. Friday and continuing through system closing on Sunday, Blue Line trains will single track between Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory to allow for rail fastener renewal, tile replacement and station rehabilitation work, and between Reagan National Airport and Braddock Road for tie and insulator renewal.
Throughout the weekend, Blue Line trains will depart Franconia-Springfield and Largo Town Center every 24 minutes.
Customers should allow 15-20 minutes of additional travel time.
Yellow Line

Beginning 10 p.m. Friday and continuing through system closing on Sunday, Yellow Line trains will single track between Reagan National Airport and Braddock Road for tie and insulator renewal.
Throughout the weekend, Yellow Line trains will operate every 24 minutes between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Square. Customers traveling to/from stations north of Mt. Vernon Square should use Green Line trains to complete their trip.
Customers should allow 15-20 minutes of additional travel time.
Green Line

No scheduled work.
Washington Home & Garden Show

Crystal City Diamond Derby

The Crystal City Diamond Derby takes over a Crysyal City parking garage on Saturday at 2 p.m. — The event’s competition is geared toward bicycle couriers, featuring a race in which participants race around the course while picking up diamond-shaped packages with the goal of winning awards and prize money.

Four Courts Four Miler
The Four Courts Four Miler is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday in Rosslyn, and several closures will be in place:

- Wilson Boulevard will be closed from Courthouse Road to N. Rhodes Street between 6:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

St. Patrick's Day 8-K Race Route

From 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, downtown D.C. will be affected by street closures for the race. Click here for a full list.

The parade will form on the National Mall and proceed westbound on Constitution Avenue NW from 7th Street to 17th Street NW where they will disband.

7th Street will be closed between Constitution Avenue NW and Independence Avenue SW from approximately 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Streets leading to Constitution Avenue NW will be closed during this time period.

National Capital Boat Show

The National Capital Boat Show will run Friday through Sunday at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly. The event will feature (you guessed it) practically all things related to boating, in addition to some celebrity appearances.
