MANASSAS, Va. - Two girls bitten by a dog earlier this week remain in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A third girl was released after being treated for injuries to her chest.

Witnesses told police the two youngest girls reached down towards the dog's collar just before it bit them Wednesday evening in Manassas.

The 7-year-old girl is being treated for injuries to her eye, while the 10-year-old is being treated for injuries to her face and nose. The 12-year-old victim was released the same day.

The owner of the black lab mix was cited for not having a city dog license and allowing the dog to run at large.

The dog is in isolation at a local animal shelter. Its fate has not been determined.

kids and adults should be taught you do'nt "reach down" and go to grab the collar or anything near the mouth of a dog, when you DO'NT KNOW THE DOG they are animals!!!!They go on instinct. I guess thay'd have gone w/a stranger if that had presented itself....teach your children!!!

One of the first things I taught my daughter when outside was ALWAYS to reach the BACK of one's hand toward any animal, not the palm side. And ALWAYS to offer it to "sniff" before doing anything else at all.

An electrical explosion at a local animal shelter has been linked to a possessed Lab mix dog in isolation.
