GUNS, GUNS, GUNS!

Gun rights advocates say they are planning to bring firearms into some Fairfax County restaurants each Saturday in April to challenge statements by Virginia's Senate majority leader.

Richard Saslaw has said on the Senate floor at least twice in recent weeks that customers who bring guns into restaurants in urban areas of the state are asked to leave.

The president of the Virginia Citizens Defense League says the group wants to prove the Fairfax County Democrat wrong. The group hasn't specified which restaurants its members will visit.

The Virginia Hospitality and Travel Association is considering alerting restaurants so they won't be alarmed.

People can carry guns into Virginia restaurants that serve alcohol as long as the weapons aren't concealed. Concealed weapons are allowed in restaurants that don't serve alcohol, provided the person has a permit.

The VCDL are a bunch of goofballs. After viewing that video I guess I see why they feel the need to carry guns. What a bunch of fat, out of shape losers. I sure do hope they have exceptional weapon retention skills, because some felon just out of the joint who REALLY wants to do them harm will make them eat those weapons from the looks of their physical fitness. Eat up, boys! You disgusting fatbodies and nerds.

Gun-activist groups like VCDL maintain lists of restaurants and businesses that are gun-friendly.

And of course they are only going to stage this event at those restaurants. They know before-hand where they will be allowed to do this.

They aren't really proving anything.

(and before i get flamed, i should note that i do believe in our 2nd amendment).

If Salslaw or Cole Slaw or whatever his name is didnt make such a big deal out of it then these guys wouldnt have pushed it back at him.

Don't sell this group short. They were the ones who used FOIA and got police records and radio transmissions when Manassas PD dealt with them. They know the gun laws inside and out.

They usually have a booth at the Dulles gun shows and there are always a pretty good size group of people around it signing up.

BTW you have more to fear from that extra large fat burger than the guns.

Why would anyone worry about someone with an unconcealed gun in a resturant?

Does anyone worry about someone with a buck knife looped over thier belt?

I can think of many more dangerous items in a resturant, like butter knives, forks, cleavers, rolling pins, beer mugs, etc.....

Most of the pisser is the governor vetoed legislation that would allow concealed carry by permit holders if they don't drink, but then SIGNED a law allowing district attorneys, without permits, to conceal carry AND drink. Just dumb. Any argument saying people would be afraid to see guns in restaurants SUPPORTS the idea of allowing permit holders to carry concealed.

Saslaw sid that anyone who carries in a NOVA restaurant will be arrested. If you go into a "gunowner unfriendly" restaurant, you will not get arrested, you'll just get asked to leave. If you don't leave, you may then be charged with trespassing. Of course it would be stupid to go to a restaurant if you are certain you will be asked to leave. I agree that this is mainly just an exercise in pissing off Saslaw, and that this proves nothing. After all, this has been proven every day for years by people I know all over NOVA.

I have carried in restaurants all over NOVA and I have never once been asked to leave, even in places that some said might be antigun. No one has ever attempted to steal my pistol. It's no big deal. Really.

Some gun owners may be fat and out of shape. I am not, but so what? How many of you internet nerds are not fat and out of shape?

I just looked it up, you are correct. He said anyone who open carries in a NOVA restaurant would be kicked out; my mistake.

He's still wrong, though. You can get kicked out, but it's pretty rare. In that channel 9 video you can see a bunch of VCDL members going to Fuddruckers after the meeting last night, and that happens every month. Nobody in there ever gets upset, and when the manager sees all these people coming to spend money he seems pretty happy. Money talks, I guess.

There is no need to fear those with CCW's. There is no need to fear the
VCDL either. The only ones you really have to worry about are the ones
carrying a pistol concealed and no permit. Those you will not notice until they're
ready to use it. Thieves and thugs fear them more than anyone.

A restaurant is a private business. If the own does want you there, the owner or manager can just say leave. The owner doesn't need to give a reason.

Why would anyone want to carry a gun in a restaurant in the first place. Sounds pretty stupid to me.

The gun-activist organizations do keep detailed lists of businesses and restaurants that are already gun-friendly. They are organized and conscious of the places do not allow it. VCDL will prove their point by only visiting those places that have already been pre-determined to accept it.

The term 'bear arms' is an idiom that means to serve as a soldier, do military service, fight.

If you want to join the military then by all means please do so. Plenty of guns there for you to play with.

Check this out. I copied from a blog.

Also among the witnesses Monday was Texas state Rep. Suzanna Hupp, whose parents died in a 1991 shooting spree in a cafeteria.

Hupp told the committee she wishes she'd had her gun with her when she and her parents dined at a Luby's restaurant in Killeen, Texas, in October 1991. She'd left her gun in her car, something she realized only after a man ran his truck into the building, got out and started shooting.

She said she was not carrying the gun in her purse because she didn't want to break the law and lose her chiropractor's license. She acknowledged that if she had her gun, she might not have hit the assailant but added she would have at least changed the situation. Twenty-three people died, including her parents.

"I'm angry, as you can tell," she said. "I was mad at hell at my legislators, because I felt they had legislated me out of my right to protect myself."

Hupp, a Republican, first won her seat in the Texas House in 1996, having already become a vocal gun rights advocate.

Texas enacted a concealed carry law in 1995, and only Kansas, Illinois, Nebraska and Wisconsin do not have them, though nine states put some restrictions on residents' ability to receive a permit.

Right... the founding fathers thought an amendment was necessary to guarantee that people in the army could have weapons. Dummy. So the second amendment should be reworded as "The right to join the Army shall not be infringed" or "The right of members of the armed forces to use weapons in battle shall not be infringed"?

All the other references to the "People" in the Constitution don't refer to the army, do they? And why would they stick a military "right" in the middle of a bunch of individual rights? Opposers to individual gun ownership and carry either can't read or believe others cannot.

Yes, practicing one's rights makes you a nutjob if you don't give reasons to explain it to someone else. As in you should have to explain WHY you want a jury of your peers, and WHY you should be able to have a letter to the editor published. Or WHY you want to meet with people or join a club without government permission or monitoring. If you don't explain why, you are a nutjob. Anon dummy.

Waco probably shouldnt be used as an example of citizens using guns in the wrong way. If you will recall, but hardly reported, the local sheriff told ATF that if they wanted Koresch all they had to do was wait for him in town where he went almost everyday or when he was out jogging. Instead a military operation was planned and we all know the results.

If you would care to read the Militia Act in its entirety, Google "Militia Act"
and you will see. Much to long to post here, but here is a relevant portion.
Please note the requirement to report for duty adequately armed.

The Militia Act of 1792, Passed May 8, 1792, providing federal standards for the organization of the Militia.

An ACT more effectually to provide for the National Defence, by establishing an Uniform Militia throughout the United States.

I. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress assembled, That each and every free able-bodied white male citizen of the respective States, resident therein, who is or shall be of age of eighteen years, and under the age of forty-five years (except as is herein after excepted) shall severally and respectively be enrolled in the militia, by the Captain or Commanding Officer of the company, within whose bounds such citizen shall reside, and that within twelve months after the passing of this Act. And it shall at all time hereafter be the duty of every such Captain or Commanding Officer of a company, to enroll every such citizen as aforesaid, and also those who shall, from time to time, arrive at the age of 18 years, or being at the age of 18 years, and under the age of 45 years (except as before excepted) shall come to reside within his bounds; and shall without delay notify such citizen of the said enrollment, by the proper non-commissioned Officer of the company, by whom such notice may be proved. That every citizen, so enrolled and notified, shall, within six months thereafter, provide himself with a good musket or firelock, a sufficient bayonet and belt, two spare flints, and a knapsack, a pouch, with a box therein, to contain not less than twenty four cartridges, suited to the bore of his musket or firelock, each cartridge to contain a proper quantity of power and ball; or with a good rifle, knapsack, shot-pouch, and power-horn, twenty balls suited to the bore of his rifle, and a quarter of a power of power; and shall appear so armed, accoutred and provided, when called out to exercise or into service, except, that when called out on company days to exercise only, he may appear without a knapsack. That the commissioned Officers shall severally be armed with a sword or hanger, and espontoon; and that from and after five years from the passing of this Act, all muskets from arming the militia as is herein required, shall be of bores sufficient for balls of the eighteenth part of a pound; and every citizen so enrolled, and providing himself with the arms, ammunition and accoutrements, required as aforesaid, shall hold the same exempted from all suits, distresses, executions or sales, for debt or for the payment of taxes.

LOL! How about the US Bill of Rights. Read the second amendment for yourself:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/constitution.billofrights.html

The term "bear arms" comes from the Bill of Rights because the British were taking away guns from colonists fearing that a war was about to break out. The British were correct. We getting ready to kick their asses back across the big pond because we were getting nothing for paying British taxes!

actually all the colonists had to do was keep fighting till the british ran out of money and time. It was our insurgency that led to victory and establishing the United States.

Yeah, and Al Qaeda has the Saudi Royal family. Al Qaeda is doing to the U.S. in Iraq what the Founding Fathers did to the British - outlast them. Too bad our President, who supposedly majored in History, is too stupid to realize that this is what is happening in the Middle East.

LOL. The war in Iraq is certainly a classic example of what has happened to the US when we have invaded countries. I can only imagine what the citizens of Iraq think about the US. Kicking in their doors, searching their houses and taking any weapons. Exactly what the British were doing to the US.

From what I understand Al Qaeda and bin Laden do not have the backing of the Saudi Royal Family. bin Laden wanted to defend Saudi Arabia as some great Patton military five star general and the Saudi Royal family decided the US could defend Saudi Arabia better. That's why bin Laden is so pissed at the US. Saudi Arabia finally kicked bin Laden out because he tried to start opposition movements to the Saudi monarchy. - Read 1986-1992 http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/binladen/etc/cron.html

this does not prove it's an idiom at all. in fact, it's quite a stretch. i do believe if they meant to say "serve in a well regulated militia," they would have written "serve in a well regulated militia."
